As a queer transgender man myself, I understand the intricacies of seeking mental health care as an LGBTQ+ individual.
My goal is to help those in the LGBTQ+ community navigate the social and personal challenges of gender identity and sexual orientation, as well as co-occurring mental health symptoms that they may be experiencing. I provide a safe therapeutic environment to meet the unique needs of this community. I have experience working with those of varying gender identities, sexual orientations, as well as varying non-monogamous relationship orientations. I also have experience working with individuals preparing for or receiving gender affirming medical care.

I affirm diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, relationship configurations, and sexual practices, including but not limited to: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer, Asexual, Aromantic, Transgender, Genderqueer, Non-Binary, Polyamory, Kink and Sex Work.
While starting therapy can seem intimidating or daunting, I want you to know that you always deserve to take up space in therapy. I aim to help clients uncover the strengths they already possess. My work with clients involves the following: celebrating culture, acknowledging marginalization & privilege, multiracial identities, interracial couples, navigating cishet-white spaces, balancing conflicting expectations, processing current events, challenging anxious thoughts, separating me (the person) from anxiety (the fear and uncertainty), unpacking past events, reducing miscommunication, and feeling seen/heard.

First things first: You are the expert on your experience! My role as your therapist is to support you in unearthing and building on the strengths you possess, the insights you hold, and the world you envision for yourself. As a therapist, I am inspired by authentic connection and collaborative work. Whether it's your goal to manage anxiety and stress, build a healthier relationship with your body and self, engage in healing around traumatic experiences, or develop more rewarding relationships, I provide a non-judgmental space in which we'll work together to explore those things that feel hardest to manage alone.

Many of us are navigating systems that were not designed to nourish us, and growing through hardships that leave us feeling isolated and overwhelmed. I work to help people (especially LGBTQ people, BBIPOC, and Neurodivergent people) understand how psychotherapy (e.g. acceptance, emotion regulation, interpersonal skills, stress-reduction, trauma work, value-driven action) can be applied to overcome and liberate. I also specialize in managing Bipolar Disorder, OCD/OCD-spectrum disorders, PTSD, & Social Anxiety. By enhancing your strengths, reworking coping mechanisms, and reframing beliefs about yourself, you can find peace and joy.

My specialization includes supporting individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) or those who have not found success with other therapies. Additionally, I assist clients in exploring their identity through an intersectional systems approach, tailored to their unique experiences.

Our painful experiences and the conditions of our society often push us to disconnect from our authentic selves, relationships, communities, and the world around us. I view healing as a process of reconnection. In our work together, we will aim to make sense of your story, explore all the parts of you that make you who you are, and work through places where you feel stuck. Through this process, my hope is that you can live your life with more agency and authenticity, more skills and tools to manage the challenges, and more capacity to experience ease, connection, and the full range of human emotions.

Deeply passionate about social justice and facilitating and guiding positive change and development in the lives of others, I am thrilled to connect with you as you begin your journey inward. Healing is truly the risk of showing up for yourself and your resistance to temptation to go back to unsilenced needs, numbing out, disconnection, and erasure. As a black, gender non-binary Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I have a personal stake and insight into the work I do. My clinical practice aims to empower and heal individuals, families & communities through therapy, consulting, case management, training, & community outreach.

If you're struggling to maintain your basic needs because you're in survival mode, I see you. It can feel impossible to navigate chronic burnout, especially when the path may be blocked by barriers related to chronic illness/pain, executive functioning and sensory needs, and/or unprocessed trauma. These barriers can often be accompanied by shame and guilt, which can make it difficult to connect with others around you. While it may feel overwhelming to find a path to healing, I am here to be a supportive and nonjudgmental co-navigator.

Many of my clients have tried traditional talk therapy before, but felt it didn't go deep enough or actually change anything. Others need the trustworthy, safe, and affirmative space they didn't have in childhood. My style is loving and experiential. I hold space for the emotional experimentation and learning that leads to long-term change.

Transgender Therapists
As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.
What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.
How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.
How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
