I acknowledge and respect the effort it takes to reach out for help. The strength it takes to say "enough!, I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired". The courage it takes to choose towards something more, something better, than where you are at right now. Thank you for being here! What if every wrongness was a strength not yet acknowledged? You are stronger than you think and worth so much more than you can imagine. The fact that you are reading this right now is proof of that!

You are resilient. You have pushed through the days or years that have tried to silence you. And now, here you are taking one more step of bravery. Whether you are struggling with emotion regulation, self-harm, complex trauma, postpartum, miscarriage, grief, suicidal ideation or previous attempts, and/or relationship struggles, I am a firm believer that you can still make your life something that you find worth living for.

I view people as whole beings, including mind, body, and soul. I look at how stress of the mind can affect the body and soul. I use an integrative approach to explore the past and correct maladaptive thinking and behaviors. I strive to help course correct maladaptive thinking and to engage in the healing of old wounds. Struggles I work with: anxiety, depression, addiction, personality disorders, ADHD, military veterans, family related issues, and difficult family experiences. I work with a list of many struggles outside of anything listed here, as well.

I love counseling! I would feel honored to walk with YOU and work out solutions to issues causing hurt, conflict, and/or broken relationships. I work with everyone and work with most insurance companies (except Medicare) and many EAPs. My primary practice focuses on the value and worth of women. I confront shame and self-blame. I also see teenagers and work with their families as desired.

You’ve been the rescuer, the caregiver, the rock for years, and it’s finally taking its toll on you. You’ve learned to hide your fatigue and your pain really well. In fact, you’d be surprised if anyone knew how much you really struggle and how your thoughts race at night when the world is quiet. Words like “weak” or “not fit for duty” push you to burrow down further into your isolation. But what if there was a better way? Together, we are going to work through this. You have finally found a place to exhale.

Do you experience strong emotions that sometimes overwhelm you? As a result, you do things to cope that you later regret. In the moment, you don’t know what else to do. You’ve tried to get help. Nothing seems to work. “Talk therapy” doesn’t cut it. Medications don’t do the trick. Self-help books are garbage. At this point, you’d do anything to have a different life. To be different. To feel different. Well. You’ve finally come to the right place. We work with people just like you. In fact, we LOVE working with people just like you. It’s our passion. We help you create a life you can love.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in collaboration, authenticity, and compassion. My goal is to create an environment in which you can explore your own path as I support and guide you through achieving your goals. No matter the circumstance, everyone is worthy of a space to process their challenges and reach their full potential. I believe that healing is not a linear process, and each individual has a unique path to self-discovery and achieving wellness. I am hopeful for the opportunity to help you build better, stronger connections with yourself and others, and ultimately, to walk alongside you down your own path.

Asking for help is a strength, not a weakness. That knowledge is what led me to become a therapist ... how effective and life-changing therapy can be. I start where you, the client, is and we make a treatment plan together to reach the goals you would like to achieve. We will develop a working hypothesis that may change over time as new information is obtained. Many mental health issues begin with an event and the mental health issue, be it anxiety, panic attacks, depression, anger, unrelated phobia, facial tic, chronic pain, avoidant behavior, dysfunctional relationship pattern, stress and/or insomnia is the resulting symptom.

Life is a journey you take toward owning your story. Unfortunately, we often encounter obstacles that distort our perspective and hinder our ability to see ourselves accurately and move toward the things that bring us the most joy and peace. Whether you’ve been derailed by traumatic life events, disordered eating, depression and anxiety, addiction, grief, spiritual abuse, or other life altering transitions, it is my belief that you have the strength and resiliency to find a meaningful life living into the fullest expression of who you are.

As a clinical counselor and pastor I value creating space for intentional listening to discover and discern how personal uniqueness can find expression within the contours of life. I work collaboratively with individuals, families and adolescents to grow awareness around the stories we tell ourselves. Sometimes these are strong, positively thick stories, and I enjoy celebrating progression with another when this occurs. More often than not in counseling, I find that our normal human experiences bring with them the challenge of embracing life as it actually is.

Practicing kindness towards ourselves can be challenging, especially when there are countless voices and messages that tell us otherwise. I firmly believe that everyone deserves acceptance and compassion, regardless of their unique story. As your therapist, it would be my privilege to walk alongside you on your journey toward healing. Together, we can create a safe space where we can learn new skills and behaviors as we increase our skills and options for how we respond to all the chaos that life throws our way.

"We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are." -Anais Nin per Talmudic origin. We must create things twice; once in our minds, and once articulated. When we think our thoughts, it lights up one part of the brain, and when we speak our thoughts, it lights up a different part of the brain. There is often something very different when we articulate our thoughts, and they change in some way. Talking out these experiences in a narrative way assists us in making sense of how we feel about those experiences.

Borderline Personality (BPD) Therapists

What is the most successful approach to treating borderline personality disorder?

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is considered the gold standard of treatment for borderline personality disorder. An evidence-based treatment, it addresses the extreme emotional reactivity, the relationship difficulties, and the acts of self-harm that create so much distress for BPD patients. DBT is a comprehensive program that includes both regular individual psychotherapy sessions and weekly group sessions of skills training.

What happens in treatment of borderline personality disorder?

Treatment typically consists of weekly individual therapy sessions that last an hour and group skill-focused instructional sessions that may last up to two hours. Patients are typically given homework “assignments” in which they are asked to practice in their daily life the skills they acquire in therapy. Patients also keep a diary tracking their emotions and impulses as a way to know which situations are most problematic and to help them gain control over their own behavior. Difficult situations and feelings are typically reviewed in therapy sessions and more constructive solutions found.

What kinds of problems does BPD treatment help with?

DBT was initially developed to dampen the self-destructive impulses of chronically suicidal patients. It is now the treatment of choice for borderline personality disorder, a serious condition marked by extreme emotional reactivity, relationship instability, and self-injurious behaviors. Treatment of BPD helps patients tolerate the flux of emotions without acting on them, often with a specific focus on tolerating negative emotions. DBT addresses the core problems of BPD—fear of abandonment, low self-esteem, and impulsivity.

What is the goal of treatment in borderline personality disorder?

The goal of treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) is to relieve the extreme emotional distress that patients experience—to curb their emotional reactivity, to minimize their inclination to self-harm, and to reduce their impulsivity. Toward these ends, patients are not only taught an array of new coping skills and techniques for emotional regulation, they are given opportunities to practice them. Another major goal of treatment is interpersonal effectiveness; patients learn and problem-solve ways to effectively communicate in relationships, especially how to ask for what they need as a way to minimize hurt feelings.
