I AM A WARRIOR! I AM A FIGHTER! I AM A CONQUEROR! I AM A SURVIVOR of RAPE, NARCISSISTIC ABUSE and CANCER! My purpose in life is to help, assist, and advocate for survivors of child sexual abuse, rape, dating/domestic violence, and narcissistic abuse. I am determined to change the narrative of survivors. There are so many survivors that will not ask for help because it is a sign of weakness. We need to change that mindset. You have to make the first step, and when you do, I will be there to help you start and get through your healing and recovery journey.

My areas of specialty include first responder PTSD, substance abuse, trauma, anxiety/depression, relationship discord, and mindfulness. I am EMDR trained and have extensive experience utilizing EMDR to resolve trauma associated with first responder experiences, accidents, grief/loss, military combat, childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, and more. My work, as well as my personal life, is grounded in mindfulness. When we train our attention to stay in the present moment, we become much more aware of the stories we tell ourselves and how much suffering we experience as a result.

My biggest goal in therapy is to help clients feel equipped to take on each day to their best ability. Whether that means learning and practicing coping skills, using EMDR to re-process past trauma and reduce triggers, growing your confidence and self-esteem, or just allowing space to better understand your thoughts and emotions, I will be with you every step of the way to support you through your therapeutic journey. I am a firm believer that therapy has the ability to truly improve your quality of life and relationships with those around you, and I hope that you will allow me to be a part of your process.

I specialize in mindfulness-based therapies to help ease the pain and suffering experienced in the midst of depression, anxiety, work and/or life stressors, trauma, post-deployment reintegration, and by survivors of sexual-assault and domestic violence.
No one deserves to suffer alone and it takes great courage to ask for help when one is struggling. I am truly honored when someone allows me to be part of their journey towards becoming their best, healthiest self. I use an integrated, strength-based approach in my therapeutic practice to help clients gain insight and feel empowered to make changes because they are worth the effort it takes to truly stretch and grow.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
