Are you looking for a holistic alternative to traditional counseling - one that goes beyond talk-therapy and helps you get to the root of the problem? Would you like to learn how to release stress, negative emotions and reactions, and the subconscious programs that are driving them, in a way that's easeful and practical? I specialize in a somatic (also called body-informed) approach to counseling and coaching.

I incorporate a holistic approach that looks at a client from a whole person, mind-body perspective, focusing on identifying relational, lifestyle, or cognitive changes that may be beneficial to reaching your identified goals.

I strongly believe in the intricate link between mind and body, incorporating somatic bodywork into our sessions.
Life is a tapestry of experiences, each thread weaving together challenges, accomplishments, confusion, introspection, pain, trauma, and joy. We are intricate beings with diverse experiences, unique needs, and dreams. Our basic needs are simple: to be seen, validated, accepted, and space to explore the intricacies of our minds, bodies, and souls. You don't have to navigate life's winding path alone. Your choice to reach out for help is an act of courage, and I recognize the bravery it takes to embark on this journey. I am here to honor your resilience and offer a judgment-free, tranquil, and secure sanctuary for your self-discovery

You feel like your partner just doesn't get it - like they don't understand you. You're stuck in a pattern that seems to never end: one of you shuts down while the other gets critical, and this cycle seems to repeat over and over again. Your sex life is strained, if not absent.

I believe that we live in challenging times. Many people find it difficult to feel confident and self assured, have peaceful, fulfilling relationships, navigate the demands of finances, family, work and home, and also focus on nourishing self care. These challenges are interconnected. They are related to how we have developed our sense of self in the context of family expectations and experiences, societal demands, cultural assumptions, and media influence. It is necessary for all of us to learn how to live our best lives in these particular circumstances. You are not alone.

Your life has not turned out how you had planned or hoped. You are struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, anger, substance use, or loss. You find yourself trying to solve this discomfort by repeating behaviors that provide temporary relief, but ultimately lead you further away from the kind of life you want, and the kind of person you want to be. Instead of stuck, exhausted, desperate, and dissatisfied, you'd like to move through your life with confidence, compassion, clarity, trust, creativity, curiosity, and centeredness. You'd like to finally resolve the hurt or pain you have been carrying inside you.

You never imagined facing this kind of loss. The grief of what could have been is overwhelming. Confusion, shock, and fear have wrapped themselves around your body and held you in place. “How can I move on from this?” you ask. Your world came to an abrupt halt, so you’ve been falling behind. While everyone else seems to keep living their lives, you’re frozen. You don’t see how there is any way out of this anger and sadness. You’ve tried numbing yourself or keeping yourself distracted, but it doesn’t help. The hollowness has left you with no idea how to proceed into a life you didn’t want. After all, this was not the plan.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
