I specialize in postpartum, setting boundaries, and healing from trauma.
Are you a new mom and feel like you are going 'crazy'? Are you tired of the ‘I’m not good enough’ loop playing in your head? Do you second guess yourself or find it difficult to make decisions? When we are feeling low it can impact areas of life ranging from productivity and procrastination to how we show up and hold boundaries in relationships. Transitioning to the role of a parent can be difficult at times and it often feels like a ton of pressure to do everything 'right'. Now, imagine if you didn’t have to feel this way. It can seem overwhelming, but with support you can feel better and start living the life you want and deserve.

Are you a new mom coping with significant life changes? Are you dealing with stress, grief, or a unique challenge while parenting? Do you feel like your relationships and identity are shifting? Do you feel blah, exhausted, or lonely? I get how challenging parenting can be. Having a gentle, nonjudgmental place to explore deeper feelings and feel supported can lighten your load. Getting some time just for you, whether to talk things out, recharge, set goals, acknowledge your strengths, or see things from a fresh perspective can help you parent mindfully & joyfully and feel like yourself again.

By recognizing the connection between past experiences and present behaviors, I enable my clients to gain insights into their thought processes and behaviors, which can empower them to make positive changes. Dismantling unhelpful patterns and replacing them with healthier alternatives is a fundamental aspect of fostering emotional well-being and personal transformation.

I am so glad you are here. It is incredibly brave to take this step toward connecting with others in a way that will inevitably ask a lot of you. Therapy requires you to be raw and vulnerable. I believe in creating a space that allows for the comfortable and uncomfortable parts of processing, leading to personal and mutual growth. Maybe we’ll work in the expansive outdoors or an inviting indoor space. Imagine a space that is warm, open-minded, and open-hearted and can support all that you bring. I create a space that honors social, cultural, economic, and spiritual differences and similarities.

Would you like to set clear boundaries? Change persistent patterns that arise in relationships? Ease your heart’s longing to belong? Engage transitions thoughtfully and with empowerment? Embrace a greater sense of connection & well-being? Be more kindhearted with yourself & loved ones? Support your child living a more joyful life? These aspirations are natural, indicating a courageous readiness to reach a fuller potential and greater well-being. Adults express themselves through stories; children through play. Words & play activate the nervous & neural systems allowing access to emotions, thoughts, & sensations.

It's not easy to seek help for your child. I've been there. I've been a psychologist for 28 years, but I've been a parent for 24, and counting. As a child and family psychologist, I help young families develop skills and routines to support healthy relationships for years to come. Play therapy allows children to integrate difficult experiences, and move past the stuck points in which they (and their parents) often find themselves. And it even works to do it virtually!

I love working with couples! A flourishing relationship gives us access to a more fulfilled life. When we feel seen, understood and supported...we thrive! In couples work, we better our skills in communication, vulnerability and emotional regulation...the result: more empathy, patience, forgiveness, tolerance and resiliency during painful anger, conflict and difference. It is my sole purpose to help individuals cultivate meaningful connection and trust within themselves and their partners. Don't let old stories and stuck behavior keep you from learning, expanding and healing. I do believe in hope and transformation!

Women are often told exactly who we are supposed to be, what our bodies should like, how to behave, how to live and think. We are constantly made to feel too much and never enough. We are taught by family, culture, and society where our place is in the world. We stay silent as we are expected to offer ourselves up for exhaustion and extraction. We make sure we are not making anyone uncomfortable, not taking up too much space. We learn to shrink, hide the parts of ourselves that are “unacceptable”, and move through the world wearing a mask. But all these rules, expectations, and beliefs feel shackles. And you're ready to be free.

My approach is client-centered, meaning I start where you are and work collaboratively to find a way forward. Perhaps that means finding a solution to a specific problem, or breaking patterns of behavior, or simply developing a better understanding of yourself.

Pregnancy, Prenatal, Postpartum Therapists

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?

The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.

When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?

Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.

How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?

A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.

Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?

In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
