The acceptance and love of our own identity can be an indicator of how well we process change, especially for people of color, mixed identities, LGBTQIA+ identities, youth/young adults, or any differing identity from the ‘status quo.’ Change is inevitable and constant in a human being's life, so working to heal our stress-responses to change is beneficial to living more peaceful days. Building from my personal experience with this, I can support and guide you on your journey to more peace.

Get unstuck! You don’t have to be ruled by your symptoms, you are so much more than them. It is natural to want to avoid unpleasant emotions. While this alleviates pain in the short term, it leads to more suffering and pain down the road. You don’t have to face this alone. Let me support you on the path to wholeness and becoming who you are meant to be.

All humans have strengths and develop strategies for coping with life's unique challenges and stressors. Sometimes the strategies we come up with are helpful and sometimes they do more to interfere with life than help. If you believe you or your child are experiencing difficulties coping with or adjusting to life's stressors that are interfering with school or work, peer and family relationships, or overall quality of life, then therapy may be a helpful next step.

Are you looking for a therapist who understands the unique needs of people in larger bodies? I work with individuals impacted by eating disorders, anxiety, and mood-related symptoms. Many of the people I work with are impacted by symptoms of binge eating, weight stigma, and everyday stressors. It is important to me to ensure that all individuals receive equitable treatment, and I work to remove insurance and treatment barriers to accessing healthcare. If you have questions about your symptoms being approved by insurance, I can help you find the answers you need.

Everyone always says parenting is hard, but that it is so worth it… leaving you to wonder when that will be true for you and leaving you to feel guilty when you feel like screaming at your toddler for not listening, or pulling your hair out due to your child excessively worrying about nothing, or walking on eggshells around your moody teenager. While you’re still figuring out how to navigate and adjust to each new phase of your own life, you’re also trying to teach your kids how to be human and how to find their own authentic selves in this changing world.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists

Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?

Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?

While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?

The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
