I believe that while no life is without some measure of pain or struggle; therapy can be a transformative, healing process which opens the door to a more fulfilling relationship with yourself and others. I provide individual and couples' counseling to young adults and adults. I am Level III certified in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and have training in other models of trauma therapy. I believe in both somatic and non-somatice resources for healing however I encourage clients to explore how their symptoms manifest through their physical body and relationships with others.

I am a licensed, clinical social worker with an abundance of experience in working with various challenges one may face across a lifespan but a particular interest in working with adolescents and women. When working with teens, whether for addictions, adjustment problems or to ease transitioning from high school or college, family dynamics are considered and provide a valuable platform for successful intervention. Have you been told ‘you’re fine’ even though you don’t actually feel fine? I get it. That’s because medications often mask symptoms and don't cure the root of the problem. I am a board certified nurse practitioner offering functional lab tests to help you change your life, not just your symptoms. Lab testing helps you uncover hidden nutrient deficiencies, hormone imbalances, gut dysfunction and other possible factors that may be causing anxiety, depression, brain fog, and difficulty focusing. With a medically supervised plan and professional grade supplements you'll be on the road to really feeling fine. Compounding also available.

Mental health and relationship issues are all too common and we each have our own unique way of experiencing them. Therapy is a place to realign this weight we carry and build a better relationship with our challenges. I provide a space for this exploration, one where you can get personal and vulnerable, laugh and cry, sometimes even curse and yell, and also informational and straight to the point. Together, we would do this by building trust and learning how our body-mind connection impacts our mental health.

You don't need someone to tell you how stressful and challenging life can be. Work is stressful. Parenting is stressful. Marriage is stressful. Given the amount of stress we experience we often have a hard time identifying what is at the core of our problems. I have found that therapy can provide much needed exploration and processing that helps us live more meaningful and fulfilling lives. In a collaborative fashion, I work with each client to find patterns in behavior and language that may not be easily recognizable by the client.

In my 25 years as a therapist I've successfully treated clients navigating life's inevitable transitions (graduation, relocation, marriage, divorce, career change, a break-up, major decisions, etc.), as well as those experiencing various forms of anxiety. I have lived experience with blended families and understand the complexities of parenting, partnering, and growing up within that framework. I work first to understand each person's unique set of circumstances, and then to identify strengths on which we can build to help clients lead happier, more joy-filled lives. Life is far too precious and short to lead a "meh" existence.

For couples who are separating or divorcing, I am trained as a mediator, a collaborative divorce coach, child specialist, and a parent coordinator.
Selecting a therapist is an important decision. I believe that creating an environment where the client feels that the therapist has listened, shown empathy, and has genuine concern are some of the core conditions for a therapeutic relationship. Providing a client with helpful feedback in this safe, empathic environment promotes change and growth. A client that I work with may have a variety of concerns including having a relationship issue, going through a separation, having parenting concerns, experiencing depression, anxiety, or problems related to alcohol or drug misuse or abuse. Parenting Therapists

What does therapy for parenting look like?

Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?

When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?

Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?

Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
