My primary specialty is healing the marriage relationship.
Where is the hope and excitement? What has got you stuck or tired and ready to give up? Have you lost trust in a partner or is the fighting and frustration in your family overwhelming you. A family can be the place where you are safe and are understood. The home can be a warm place full of love or a cold and bitter place you run from. Sadly, when we are hurting it is our families that feel the weight of that burden.

Actively providing outpatient psychotherapy for adults, children, couples, families, and all types of relationship units since 2013, I have my MA in Marriage and Family Counseling from Adler University (Chicago).
Hope can be hard to come by in times of daily struggles and distress. But it’s also what keeps us walking down the hallways of life toward healing and relief. My goal has always been to help others find hope for their future. Hope when life brings challenges, hope despite the past, hope in the present, and hope for what’s to come. I believe every person has the ability to overcome and heal with even the smallest spark of hope. I have spent much of my career helping others develop skills to manage stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma, as well as working through couple, family, and other relationship unit issues.

My passion in life is to help you thrive. My approach to marriage, family, and relationships is unique because I am keenly aware of how your view of the world, yourself, and how you view others affects all aspects of your life and your relationships. I'm a compassionate straight shooter who will help you reshape your past and set a firm foundation for the future. I see couples, individuals, & families for: dating/relationship issues, anxiety, couples counseling (infidelity, alcohol misuse, how social media affects connection, & pre- marital), college/graduate student stress, divorce, blended families, co-dependency, grief & loss, harsh self-narratives, & concerns with spirituality, indecision, and uncertainty.
My accepting approach is secured in the notion that we all deserve to be welcomed just as we are, including the problems and struggles we bear. Even if our problems have no straightforward answers, we can learn to live with and through them when we are better connected to ourselves and others. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I aspire to enable this connection. My training is rooted in Systems Theory, which views individuals, couples, and families through their relationship network. I take care to recognize how family of origin, cultural, and contextual factors inform our habits, perceptions, and sense of well-being.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
