Chronic illness and its impact on the individual, couple, and the family has been the focus of my 30 years as a therapist. As a marriage and family therapist I also see individuals and couples struggling with depression, anxiety, and relationship conflict. I am a clinical member of the American Association of Christian Counselors and an Approved MFT Supervisor by the Kansas Sciences Regulatory Board.

There is so much chaos, anger, and hate in the world today to fall prey to. It is easy to look at your life and only see the negatives. I offer an approach to help bring a renewed sense of joy, peace and acceptance, despite life's difficulties. I walk alongside clients on their journey and collaborate with them on decisions to find the most joyful path for their life. I hope to help you find peace in a time of stress or laughter even when there is sorrow.

I am a trauma informed, sex positive clinician that strives to improve connection between couples, provide inclusive sex education and focus on individuals reducing distress and improving their quality of life. I am passionate about assisting individuals & couples with enhancing communication, reducing conflict, set boundaries, resolve trauma, and cope effectively with all of life's stressors. As well as providing sex therapy to individuals & couples, I also have 10+ years experience providing DBT and EMDR therapy to teenage and adult clients and have a weekly DBT group for adults.

Marla specializes in Family Interventions for any and all behaviors related to addiction. For 22+ years Marla has had the satisfaction of coaching, mentoring and re-integrating individuals, couples and families back into a new healthy, family system and/or community customized to the individuality and uniqueness of the family unit. Our mission is to create the largest effort to date in order to enable the release of the forces that are keeping them stuck and to re-build the integrity of the individuals who reside within the potential family powerhouse.

As a therapist, I strive to provide a safe space for my clients. My idea of therapy is to join my clients where they are and walk along with them and help find the path they are searching for. Change in our lives is a process but growth and healing can occur, although it's not always easy.

I believe psychotherapy is a mixture of psychoeducation (providing information to help people develop new coping and relationship skills), emotional processing (learning to identify and work through uncomfortable feelings), and corrective emotional experience (using the counseling relationship as a safe place to experiment with new interpersonal skills). I utilize a mixture of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (addressing how our thoughts and beliefs impact our emotional experience, self-image, and behavior); Family Systems Therapy (helping people gain insight into characteristic relationship patterns); and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (understanding how ways of coping developed earlier in life may not serve us well in the present).

I firmly believe that continual growth as a person is imperative to a full and peaceful life. I am a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist. I obtained my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Friends University in 2016. I enjoy working with couples, individuals, families, and children 13+ in achieving their own mental and emotional goals. Some issues I enjoy working with are issues related to, intimacy, postpartum, gender sex therapy, anxiety, depression and Tics/Tourette.
