My clinical training and experiences thus far provide me with the unique capability to support a variety of people and populations; these include behavioral and emotional issues in children/preteens, parents, adults struggling with anxiety, unhealthy thinking patterns, relationship stressors, and communication barriers within relationships.
The world we live in is overwhelmingly unpredictable, which can lead us to not only numb our own emotions, but also hinders our capacity to communicate in healthier ways, build meaningful relationships, connect, be intentionally productive, or engage in much needed acts of self-care. Feeling the weight of one or more past traumatic or stressful experiences can easily cripple our ability to shift away from destructive behavior patterns. You may be feeling stuck– uncertain of who you are, what you want, and what you deserve, or maybe you’re caught in the spiral of believing that you don’t deserve more than what you have now.

Life storms” can show up at any time during the seasons of our lives. They can be mild storms or hurricane-level catastrophic storms. Those storms can range from work-related stress, broken relationships, losing a loved one, dealing with illness, job loss, fears, phobias, and traumatic, life-threatening events. These “life storms” can leave you feeling defeated, fearful, anxious, overwhelmed, and doubtful. You wonder if you will ever be able to find some sense of normal again. Every day is a struggle to get out of bed, go to work, tend to the kids, make dinner, etc. Days turn into weeks and weeks become months.

Navigating life’s challenges can be tough, particularly when you are in “push through it” mode and neglecting the parts of your life that help you to thrive. This is when you are most vulnerable to anxiety and depression and most likely to fall out of attunement with your best self. Relationships begin to suffer and sometimes it's hard to plow through the weight of past judgments, prejudices, feelings of shame, and guilt. Those types of past experiences can feel like unwelcome guests and their impact can be profound, but if we can learn to turn toward them with openness and understanding, change can be found around the corner.

I also enjoy working with clients struggling with trauma, depression, anxiety, and relationship issues.
First of all, I just want to honor you for taking this step to invest in yourself. Working on yourself isn't easy but you don't have to do it alone. You recognize that you aren't happy or that you might be feeling stuck in your life but that something has to change. What keeps you where you are at? We can't keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect a different result. If you are ready to do something different, I want to help support you in that. I work with clients who are open and ready to learn new tools/ways to break their own limiting beliefs, create new ones, and embody the best version of themselves.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
