I believe that it is important to find a therapist that is a good fit for you. There are many wonderful therapists, but it is important for you to feel that you are understood, supported, and sometimes gently challenged by your therapist. I will ask you to identify what you want help with or what you are feeling distress around and then will actively work with you toward your goals.

My clinical approach is rooted in CBT, ERP, and ACT and is informed by an anti-oppressive/anti-racist and pro queer/LGBTQ+ approach with a focus on my client’s strengths.
Change is possible. A diagnosis of OCD or another anxiety disorder can be scary and confusing. It can feel like your life is defined by dread, worry, fear, and exhaustion. Much of your energy and time are likely spent trying to present to the outside world as “successful” and “having it all together”. Internally, you may feel disconnected from your core self, your innate purpose and potential, and the ability to enjoy simple moments in your life. Anxiety doesn’t have to define who you are as a human. Therapy is courageous work. I’m glad you’re here making this first step.

I specialize in ERP, a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that is evidence-based and used to treat Anxiety Disorders and OCD.
This “being human thing” is hard, and often feels uncomfortable. Sometimes the “uncomfortable” is experienced internally, sometimes externally, and sometimes both. This is a result of our actual or perceived response to the past, present, or future. Our work together will be focused on helping you to be “uncomfortable on purpose,” through identifying your values, increasing your capacity to tolerate uncertainty, processing what has maintained your current ways of living, and learning how to engage with yourself and others in a way that makes this “being human thing” a little bit easier.

ERP treatment is one of the most effective forms and the “gold standard” of treatment for OCD and other anxiety disorders.
I offer short term, evidence-based treatment for trauma (Cognitive Processing Treatment - CPT) and anxiety disorders, specifically OCD, rumination, and phobias (Exposure and Response Prevention - ERP). When we have experienced difficult or traumatic events, those experiences can create beliefs about ourselves, our lives, and our potential for healing that can get stuck and hold us back from the changes we need to make. I believe that your approach to things can be different as you can learn feel confident trusting in yourself. When negative thoughts arise, they won’t feel like the absolute truth and you can rebuild your life.

Anxiety, Phobias, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in kids can show up in big ways and leave families spiraling. Being a parent of two myself I get that we can’t always prevent our kids from struggling, but we can give them the skills to thrive in the face of life's challenges. With skill building through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), I help kids and parents develop a toolbox of evidenced based strategies to face their fears and courageously take back their lives from anxiety and OCD.

I use evidence-based cognitive behavioral modalities such as CPT and ERP, which are structured and typically short-term (12-16 weeks) treatments.
I often work with clients who are seeking recovery from traumatic experiences and other stressful life events. I specialize in working with clients who have symptoms of PTSD, anxiety disorders, OCD, and adjustment disorders due to life stressors/transitions. I am interested in working with clients who are willing to explore how their experiences inform and impact their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. My hope is that we will be able to identify and possibly shift patterns that are no longer serving you, so that you can live in alignment with your unique values and goals moving forward.

Your pain is a key that can unlock the door to a better life. As a psychologist, I work to help you turn that key- to help open yourself to the compassion, enjoyment, and fulfillment that are waiting for you. I can help you through life's problems using evidence based therapy, meaning we will practice techniques that science has shown work when people commit to the process. I use a form of cognitive behavioral therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which has been shown by research to be effective not only in reducing suffering but also in increasing life satisfaction.

I believe that we all experience struggles in life, both within ourselves and through challenging circumstances. These struggles can result in trauma, anxiety, depression, brain and body changes, influence our sense of self-worth, identity, belief in our abilities, the world around us, and otherwise limit us . So often, these struggles can impact our relationships, career, and long-term well-being. Clients who want to address these, and other, concerns head on in a supportive manner with a trauma lens and utilize treatment guided by science and a neuro-biological approach would enjoy my approach to therapy.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists

Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?

Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?

While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?

The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
