I utilize a combination of strength-based perspectives and mindfulness-based approaches and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) when working with individuals, couples, and adolescents.
Do you feel like you are going through life transitions alone? Are you having a hard time adjusting to certain situations and don’t have the skills to get through it? No one should have to go through difficult times alone. Don’t be afraid to seek the help you need in a setting that is non-judgmental and safe. You won’t experience negativity or criticism here. You deserve to be heard and validated for how you feel and see the world.

I have special experience in CBT, trauma, Gottman couples therapy, & positive parenting.
Maybe you struggle with depression & feelings of hopelessness or crying spells. Or you might deal with anxiety & intense fears or panic attacks. I can help you gain insight into your experience & reroute thought patterns so you'll feel better. You may seek to improve the most important relationships in your life—with your partner, your teenager, your elderly parents, or yourself. We can work toward greater understanding & acceptance of others & yourself. Sometimes the physical, relational, & psychological issues that bring you to therapy are rooted in unprocessed wounds or trauma. We can change your story from pain to healing.

I use the most effective therapies available such as CBT and the Gottman Method.
Do you second-guess your decisions while also dreading the future? Maybe it’s too hard to get going in the morning because you’re not sure what matters anymore. I’m guessing you’ve perhaps tried therapy or other treatments which may have helped temporarily, while your life eventually returned to the status quo. I’ve seen many people suffer for too long unnecessarily. That’s what makes me passionate about providing therapy that really makes a difference. I offer effective treatments for anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, and more. I also support those in the LGBTQ community, who may deal with these and other challenges.

I am certified in TF-CBT (trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy), and practice often out of that mode of therapy.
I’m a therapist serving all of Texas. I’m a mom to a pretty bad-ass 12-year-old, a best friend to several gorgeous people, and a partner (I’m polyamorous, and have two partners currently). My friends, family, clients, and partners are the most important things on the planet to me. I have two cats, Rocco & Lilith, who are terrible, and I love them. I am a Health At Every Size provider. Four things that always make me happy: good coffee, The Office, a good eyeshadow palette, and fresh hydrangeas

EFT, IFS, Gottman, various trauma-based models, CBT among others.
I enjoy working with individuals, families, and couples to uncover their limiting beliefs, discover inner strengths and create a vision of how to enhance their relationships. Ideally, clients are eager to learn how to speak their truth and are open to making changes in their lives to improve their situations. Using models of John Gottman, Sue Johnson, NLP, IFS, science-based relationship enhancement techniques, I enjoy helping clients who come to sessions willing to identify the root of their struggles, set goals and create a plan to develop skills to navigate life's ever-changing circumstances. Texas license applied for.

My practice focus is with individuals seeking support to navigate the emotional and physical healing of trauma, borderline personality disorder and anxiety. The challenges related to this type of healing affect how you show up in you physical body, the ability to stay present in the wake of these challenges and personal acceptance at a profound spiritual level. I offer support through cognitive therapy for processing, teach you manageable mindfulness to soothe your nervous system and help you prevent emotional self abandonment with dialectical behavior therapy, helping you feel better right now and rescue your soul from the past.

You're not a cookie, and I am not a cookie-cutter therapist. Every person is unique, and my counseling approach is very much tailored to your specific needs. For most people, counseling may be a last resort, one final effort after they’ve tried everything else. Some worry that seeking therapy means they’ve failed; and for others, the idea of therapy is just plain scary or not the way they were “taught to deal with things”. Even so, the fact that you’re reading this means you want to take back control and begin creating the life you really want. Well, you’ve come to the right place!

I believe we're shaped by biological (heredity, diet, hormones), psychosocial (peers, family, job stress), and psychological influences (thoughts, self-esteem, perfectionism). Addressing the mind-body interaction is critical. I guide and teach, helping clients learn new skills such as meditation and meridian tapping to handle life stresses. Clients who best fit my style wish to let go of negative patterns of self-doubt, guilt, worry, and feeling "never good enough." My therapy focus is here-and-now, focusing on mind-body habits, to develop new behaviors, recondition brain connections, to go beyond mere understanding or insight.

You are aching to live a more authentic, fulfilling and empowered life, yet you are struggling to know how to proceed. I get it. I have been there. We build lives on foundations based in old programs, expectations, and beliefs and then when we feel the call for something more, we can feel stuck, anxious, or guilt. The life we built no longer suits us and we need help navigating change as we rebuild. Perhaps a relationship, a career, a midlife awakening (or pandemic) has triggered a longing for something more meaningful or fulfilling. Or maybe, something less- less drama, less stress, less anxiety, less soul sucking.

Welcome my name is Kareem Hicks and I commend anyone that has the desire to grow. Often times, our environments & comfort zones may stagnate or stunt our growth. To me there is no such thing as the ideal client when it comes to therapy. The ideal client to me would be a client who is willing to act and commit on barriers that they are facing currently. The purpose of therapy is to align the individual with the tools to overcome barriers that hinder growth and stability.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
