I also utilize Attachment-based and Relational Psychodynamic Therapy.
If you are looking to heal from past pain, end destructive patterns, reconnect with your body, or choose and cultivate meaningful, intimate relationships: Welcome! I work with clients suffering from relational trauma and abuse, grief and loss, PTSD, anxiety, depression, past sexual abuse, and addictions. My ability to guide others is informed by my training but rooted in my own experiences of suffering, and of the utter relief of finding my own healing path.

This psychodynamic work can be transformational for you.
I work with adults, both younger and older, and specialize in individual therapy. My typical client is a professional busy with the demands of work, love, family, and play. But I have a diverse practice and not everyone fits this label. I work frequently with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, family dynamics, and self-esteem issues. A common theme is a feeling of being stuck in negative dynamics that, best efforts to the contrary, keep repeating.

I've been a clinical psychologist for over 40 years. I have treated a broad range of clients during this time utilizing humanistic and psychodynamic approaches. My focus in therapy is with adults who struggle with a variety of personal issues including depression, anxiety, self-esteem and relationships. I am quite interested in the concerns that younger adults confront as well as those that individuals face as they transition into their mid-life years including aging, retirement, sexuality, illness, and loss. I believe that I can help clients gain greater clarity as they work to resolve these issues in an atmosphere of support and warmth.

I am trained in psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive and narrative therapy approaches and I integrate these methods to meet the needs of my clients.
When someone is in our corner and believes in us, I believe we are capable of overcoming any obstacle and of fulfilling our desires; we are capable of creating a satisfying life. I try to be that person as a therapist, offering interest, care, concern and compassion. I also challenge my clients to be their best selves. I have learned that each of us has a higher, deeper self that we can draw from. I see my work with you as helping you to connect with this part of yourself. I am down to earth, fully human and present with you as we work together. I offer safety, warmth acceptance and honesty to help you grow.

My therapy style is mainly using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Culturally sensitive approaches to provide space for change in the client. I have also trained in trauma-informed care and more interpersonal approaches such as Gestalt and Psychodynamic. I love seeing the change in the client. Once change happens, it is like a whirlwind. That drives me to continue to do this work. I am honest and direct, I like for my clients to feel confident enough to challenge me if necessary. Goal setting is a collaborative approach between me and the client. We determine the goal and how to approach said goal.

In more than 30 years of practice, I have never ceased to be moved by, and immensely respectful of an individual's courage to reach out to a stranger for help, often at a critical point in their life. I provide psychotherapy for women and men from late adolescence through seniority, and have extensive experience helping people navigate life's challenges. I am skilled in using both short and open-ended treatment approaches. Non-judgement, compassion and confidentiality are my highest priorities.

I have been a therapist for 20 years. I have also been a client. As a client I enjoy the process of working on my relationship to self and others, processing the wounds and effects of childhood, and working to improve my ability to live in the moment with contentment, presence, and acceptance. For me therapy helps me to be intimate, to listen, and to practice loving kindness. It is an important part of my spiritual growth and over all self-improvement. This is what I enjoy with my clients… being part of their life’s journey of contentment and meaning, away from fear and always working toward love.

We have all been in a place where the problems we face are higher than Everest and scarier than a horror movie. If you are in that place, well, I have been there, too. Fortunately, through the help of some truly gifted psychotherapists, who listened to me with the greatest attention, who empathized with my plights, and who offered the kind of magical elixir of care, concern and challenge, I grew out of these feelings and made a great life for myself. If you want something similar, therapy is great. And it would be my honor to be your therapist.

No one is born with a playbook for life, but you have the power to write your own. Some people I work with recognize that they feel anxious, depressed, possibly reliving trauma, or are generally unfulfilled, while others are not sure why they are unhappy, nervous, not enjoying life. I’m here to help you get more out of life. More love, more joy, more peace. Change isn’t always easy. I offer a space where you can explore your emotions, fears, anger, and experience new-found hope, plus get real solutions, and thrive!

People come into therapy for many reasons such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, parenting-child relationship issues, and trauma. But one reason remains the same: the desire for change. I acknowledge that change can be sometimes scary and difficult to confront. I'm here to help you through this process. My goal is to provide a safe and warm environment for us to work as a team to address what's going on in your life. I believe everyone deserves a space and opportunity to be heard and understood.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
