My ideal clients are adult victims of the repercussions of childhood trauma, war veterans, work stress issues, end of life, relational problems. I work especially well with men in retirement and those caught in the fight/ flight/ freeze response that shuts down their limbic system resulting in physical illness, anger/ dispare, dysfunctional memories, insomnia, dissociation and gross negative thinking. I focus particularly on working with men of all ages. Those who get caught in male stereotypes hide their pain and hurt resulting in loneliness, addiction especially men experiencing allenation from families, work in later life.

I have always believed that therapy is a collaborative journey between me and my client. I have been licensed since 1984 and have spent most of that time learning new approaches to therapy. I primarily use Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Clinical Hypnosis, Medical Hypnosis (pain management) Stress Reduction Mindfulness and several others depending on a person needs. I have worked with adults and teens with all forms of anxiety disorders, depressives disorders, PTSD and medical conditions.

We all live in relationships and when we are not in harmony with them this can cause anxiety, sadness, confusion, low self esteem and worth. Our core relationship is with our self. My goal is to use my clinical skills to assist as many people as possible to heal and empower themselves. For ten years I served as an associate professor of Human Services at Saddleback College training prospective counselors, therapists and others pursuing professions in human services.

I help individuals and couples improve the quality of their lives. I have been in private practice for over 30 years developing my craft. Sadly many people live far below their potential to experience love and happiness. The understanding that conditioning and unconscious training determine your perceptions and emotional reactions is the first step in the creation of new skills and emotional balance. My approach is a unique combination of cognitive restructuring and emotional integration leading to an improved awareness of possibilities both individually and in relationship. I have been in practice in the area for over 40 years, working with a very diverse population, including individual's, adults, adolescents, and couples with a wide variety of concerns and complex life challenges. I taught for 28 years, first as an associate professor of psychology at Marymount College, and have taught graduate courses at Loyola Marymount University and Pepperdine University. Twice, I have been the recipient of the Lampert Award from Pacificare Behavioral Health, which quantifies client outcomes. In effect, my therapeutic effectiveness has been ranked in the top one percent of over 10,000 participating therapists.

Carmen was born in Chile. She has more than 20 years experience as Nuclear Medicine Technologist, and as researcher in Brain Imaging. She earned her M.A. in Clinical Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Carmen has been working with Victims of Crime, as well as children and families with depression, trauma, ADD, mood disorders and anxiety for several years. Each day we face new challenges. Most of us strive to achieve physical or spiritual wellness. In this journey, it is important to keep our achievements short term, one day at the time, to reach our long term goals.
