Attending therapy is an opportunity for you to do something to help yourself. During your therapy sessions with me I will work to get to know you so that I have a good understanding about the most important concern you want to address. This will involve discussing with you potential changes you want to make for yourself or perhaps exploring your desire to have a deeper understanding about something that may be troubling you. I work with people who are suffering with the challenges related to trauma, anxiety, loss, depression, panic-attacks, phobias and other areas.

Hello my name is Derek Spiegel and I have been practicing as a Licensed Professional Counselor [LPC] in the field for over 20 years. Life is full of endless possibilities for each one of us. Coupled with the possibilities there are "things" that happen in our journey that we are not ready for. My Great Grandmother Rosie was one of the most influential people in my life. I utilize a variety of treatment modalities that include Cognitive Behavioral, Cognitive Processing, Trauma-Focused, Person-Centered, Solution Focused, Attachment Theory, Theraplay Principles, and Brainspotting. I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker in the state of Arkansas. I have served various positions in the mental health field since 2009 and have been a licensed therapist since 2013.

I can help you get to the 'heart' of the challenges and issues you're dealing with and make the lasting changes you’re longing for. Having been in practice over 40 years, I'm a seasoned therapist and have the tools and experience to resolve whatever is 'up' for you. I've found that 'talk therapy' is often not enough to resolve many difficulties, so I use a variety of effective approaches, uniquely adjusted to match each client's needs. In addition to talk therapy, I utilize Brainspotting; EMDR; Body Centered therapy; Meditative approaches and Hypnotherapy.

My ideal client is anyone who is dealing with the feeling of hopelessness, stuck, trouble adjusting with life events, depression, anxiety and more. For you to be an ideal client and for the work I offer to work, it starts with you being motivated in putting in the work towards change.

Depression and anxiety are at an all-time high, especially among children, teens, and young adults. Their mental health is controlled by peers, social media, and high expectations administered by family. Sometimes, a traumatic event occurs and their lives spin out of control. Many individuals who struggle with their mental health at such a young age begin to fill the void of what they believe is missing in their lives with negative vices. Some, unfortunately, turn to self-harm and have suicidal ideations.

With 20 years of experience working in the helping profession with children, adolescents, families and adults and the last 11 years serving as a licensed professional counselor, I am able to accurately and effectively evaluate and treat most issues arising within each of these groups and across multiple settings. I have a Master of Science degree and a Specialist in Education degree in Professional Counseling. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral, and Experiential Therapy approaches when working with individuals and families.
