We all face difficult times in life and sometimes cannot even pinpoint the source of the pain. Therapy is an incredible way to face what hurts but also an amazing opportunity to grow into our best selves. I work with adolescents and adults who are struggling with anxiety/depression, past-trauma, divorce/separation, toxic relationships and negative seIf-talk/faulty thinking. You may not feel like yourself lately, or are struggling to even know who you are or what you want out of life. Allow me to listen, walk beside you, and help you set and achieve your personal goals. Note: I am a telehealth only therapist with Northwest Counsel.

Pull up a bean bag chair, grab your favorite fidget, and let's talk. Maybe you describe your life as "a lot," and struggle to find the spoons to get all your stuff done as well as make meaningful change. Maybe anxiety takes up so much space in your day that it leaves little room for the things you want. Maybe your story includes trauma, and that burden is getting so heavy, it hurts. You want to pursue fulfillment, satisfaction, meaning, and peace in your world. If any of these or other painful places in your heart are true, I would love to get a chance to walk alongside you and find what you're looking for together.

Whether you are an adult or youth struggling with feelings of sadness, anxiety, anger, or have found yourself in difficult situation and feel lost, you've come to the right place.
First, I believe it is my duty to be able to actively listen to my client, obtain a good understanding of where they are and where they want to go. Together, we will move you and/or your team or organization in the desired direction to reach your goals. As a young man growing up in North Chicago, I quickly learned that life is full of rewards and upsets, if I allowed it to happen. At 3 months old, I was abandoned by my mother, left inside of a garbage can in an alley waiting to die. However, life had other plans for me. A passerby heard my faint cries and pulled me from the garbage can. Later, I was adopted but went on to experience years of physical and emotional abuse by my adopted mother. At the age of 12, I ran away from home and was placed in foster care. I was adopted again, but I experienced more mental and physical abuse. I dropped out of the 9th grade and began running away again. At the age of 16, the authorities declared me an emancipated teenager. With a story like mine, you would probably think there was no hope for finding happiness or for finding quality of life. However, I have learned to use my negative experiences as a testimony to reach out and help others.

Hello! Thanks for checking out my page. I have over 20 years experience and offer both in-person therapy in Spokane, WA, and telehealth throughout Washington state. You might be like most of my clients - a normally well adjusted, intelligent person, struggling with anxiety or depression. For people like you, counseling really works. If you try counseling, you will know if its working within the first 3-5 sessions. Some people need just a handful of sessions to get back to their old selves, others choose to stay involved to deepen their growth. Whichever you choose is up to you, but taking the first step is most important.

Throughout my professional career I have focused on men and men's issues, relationship struggles, marriage and family issues, issues of faith and spirituality, depression and anxiety, sexual issues and identity, post-traumatic stress (PTSD), grief and loss, career, parenting, and adolescent issues.
Change comes through relationship and at Northwest Counsel I desire for you to see real, positive change in your life and your personal relationships. To give you an idea of what to expect, your first appointment is your chance to explain special circumstances and ask any questions about therapy. You will get a feel for who I am and how I can serve you, and together we can determine if I will help guide you to the next step on your journey of wellness. Sessions typically last 45-55 minutes and are custom tailored to your situation and your needs.

With a background working in schools as well as community mental health, I have experience working with children/adolescents, adults and families, helping to manage: depression, anxiety, mild to severe behavior and mental disabilities, grief and loss, LGBTQ issues, relationships, trauma, career and academic exploration and crisis stabilization.
Therapy and the process of change can be daunting but, YOU ARE WORTH IT! My focus and goal in my work with you is to help navigate through your personal process of growth and change. I use a strength based, client centered and cognitive/behavioral approach to help develop techniques and coping skills to get you to where you want to be to feel solace and peace in your life. The most important step in the process is establishing a client/therapist relationship based on mutual respect and integrity.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
