These include anxiety, depression, trauma, interpersonal and family concerns.
I approach therapy from a systems perspective. I work with indiv/couples/fam from various cultural frameworks, especially those from black/brown communities, to manage life's stressors in context with the dynamic roles they possess in life. I believe that problems occur when an individual experiences disruptions to their norms resulting in cognitive distortions that impact their overall well-being. I work to help indiv/couples/fam process their emotions and develop healthy strategies to improve their functioning, while supporting them as they navigate the various systems in which they belong (e.g. family, career, interpersonal).

Seeking counseling can be a overwhelming and anxiety producing experience beyond "the why" of what brought you here. Building a relationship of trust to be vulnerable with a complete stranger is one of the hardest things we can do as humans. Chronic stress from past experiences and intergenerational trauma/stress are often hidden or very present parts of ourselves often creating a tangled web of connection within and attachments with others.

Arin believes that therapy is a partnership where the therapist facilitates the change and growth that a client seeks to make. She assists people in developing self-worth and self-awareness. Arin also works with clients to establish boundaries and recognize barriers to success and happiness such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and overall negative patterns of thinking. Once someone learns to love and accept themselves, it becomes easier to have healthy interpersonal relationships.

Are you struggling with stress, anxiety, self-image/identity/esteem, relational issues, or just general feelings of sadness? Are you looking for a therapist who has a sense of humor and will still make you feel understood. I'm not that stoic, serious therapist you've traditionally seen portrayed in movies. I smile, I laugh, I frown, I may even gasp (insert gasp!). But I'll do my best to always make you feel safe and supported. I'm just another human who, like you, is looking to learn, connect, and grow. I believe in taking a down-to-earth, relatable approach to therapy, providing a new perspective while collaborating with you.

It's no wonder nowadays that anxiety is increasing.
Today's life struggles are much different than yesterdays. On top of average everyday obstacles of navigating a busy life, raising a family, and making ends meet, were faced with political tensions, health concerns, and morals/values that we've never thought of before. Amongst all these stressors, I relate and empathize with this journey were on together. I enjoy helping today's transition-aged youth (late teen to early adult) learn to slow down in the midst of society's business, learn to enjoy this journey, find meaning in their experiences and find their way through life's difficulties, relationships and career paths.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
