I am particularly focused on stress management and the use of hypnosis and mindfulness to aid individuals in increasing relaxation, reducing pain and anxiety as well as improving satisfaction with themselves and the life choices they are making.
People come to treatment for a variety of reasons.I view each person as unique and strive to assist individuals to overcome challenges and meet the goals that are important in their lives. As we work to let go of behaviors, thoughts and feelings that are not useful in the present, new healthier patterns can emerge and be adopted. Treatment is always focused on achieving a greater sense of comfort and satisfaction, psychologically, emotionally physically and spiritually.

There are so many reasons to seek out therapy. Maybe you have been in therapy for years, maybe this is your first time. No matter the reason or your experience, I am glad that you are here, seeking time to set aside for yourself. This world is hard: systems are oppressive, relationships and communities are complex and our individual survival strategies within all these dynamics are incredibly varied. Therapy is a space that we build together to reflect on what is happening for you, to process the road that led you here and to set in place obtainable, sustainable response strategies.

At times, life can present challenges that feel as if they are impossible to overcome. Those feelings can become even more unbearable when individuals recognize change is needed, but have difficulty prioritizing the first steps. It can be very challenging to admit we don't know what to do about our life's issues. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed and unsure about how to shift the tide of change in your favor, I may be able to assist you along your journey. There is no such thing as too late while you still have breathe in your body. When you are ready, I will be here to help one step at a time.

Whether you are coming to therapy for anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, a life change, or just a general sense of unease, facing these issues can be scary.
Our wounds, losses, and trauma can trap us in painful patterns of avoidance, anger, fear, sadness, guilt, and shame. Together, we can develop curiosity, compassion, and understanding around how they are showing up in our relationships with ourselves and others, to ultimately begin to build a life that feels more meaningful and true.

I specialize in working with clients that have co-occurring disorders such as depression and substance abuse. I have found that many people will start self-medicating for depression and anxieties with alcohol and street drugs only to find themselves in an addiction they never wanted. I also specialize in Post-traumatic Stress Disorders. I will primarily provide services through Telemedicine portals to help protect the confidentiality of my clients who do not wish to be seen walking into or out of a mental health office.

Whether it has a name like anxiety, depression, shame, fear, grief, addiction, trauma, something that has stayed with you from the past, or something harder to name, there is a way forward.
I am a Level 3 Certified Internal Family Systems Therapist working with adults and young adults, as well as others in helping roles. I use IFS and Somatic IFS as my primary framework for therapy because it is trauma-informed, respectful, and non-pathologizing—and allows for depth, connection, and growth while honoring choice and safety.

As a Board certified psychotherapist with 30 years of private practice, I have seen quite a bit. For me, there is no ideal client, or issue. What is important is that each new client put in the work. It isn't easy, but it can be worth it. Therapists don't have magic wands- we need our clients to be engaged and to try and trust the process. If so, then we can often achieve the treatment goals that you have set.

Determined to get better? I’m with you! I believe that human beings, as a species, are basically traumatized. I also believe in post-traumatic growth and safety in connection. I offer personal and professional consultation, as well as ongoing therapy, for people who are struggling in life and could use some help figuring things out. That may mean digging deeper to uncover unconscious blocks, move through old experiences that negatively impact you now, and increase access to your own internal resources. It may mean strengthening your conscious mind by growing and expanding your coping, critical thinking, and relationship skills.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
