I enjoy working with people that are motivated and active in therapy. Whether the issue is at work, in a relationship, or how you think or feel about things, we can move through it with honesty, laughter, and grace. I also enjoy working with couples because a lot of change can come from partners working through issues together. Relationships are really hard so helping people navigate through the rough patches, while reinforcing the good, is especially rewarding. I also like working with teens, because we can intervene early. I think we can help teens avoid unnecessary pain later in life, if we teach them skills now.

My approach is holistic, person-centered, and trauma-informed, and based in talk-therapy. I work with adults, children/teens and families with a range of mental health issues, with a special interest in working with those who suffer from chronic and complex conditions, including PANS/PANDAS, Lyme disease, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). I also support families who are navigating their child’s diagnosis within the school setting, particularly with IEPs and 504 plans. With a deep appreciation for functional medicine, I believe that health is multifactorial, and aim to go beyond the diagnoses of her patients.

Life is hard and often not fair at times. We seek therapy to feel heard, validated and find ways to move through our pain. I work with a broad range of individuals, couple's and families. My passion is helping those with relational issues, developmental trauma, substance use as well as eating disorders. I will work with individuals (13+). I love working with transplants as I understand the complexities of moving to another part of the country and not knowing the culture. My goal is to help you find yourself, that internal voice that tells you, "you are worthy, you are enough."

Brianna places tremendous value on the therapist-client relationship and believes nothing is more important than cultivating a strong, trusting connection with clients. She believes a misconception exists that says advice giving is what is most helpful, but Brianna prefers to offer her clients alternative perspectives and create space for a collaborative approach to explore new ways to overcoming obstacles. Clients can expect a safe, nonjudgmental therapy environment to express themselves and be heard. Her environment is one of active listening, empathy, empowerment, support, collaboration, and humor.

Are you experiencing feelings of hopelessness, depression, anxiousness, or becoming overwhelmed? Have you been experiencing a lack of community and connection, difficulty with family relations, or a loss of sense of self? These are just a few of the many challenge’s life can bring us. It can be even more difficult to navigate these challenges with minimal support or without the necessary coping strategies in place. It takes courage to seek out and ask for help in your journey towards healing. I value the importance of establishing a trusting therapeutic relationship in order to move towards healing.

Are you feeling stressed and fear you will "burn out?" Are you grieving the death of a loved one or loss of something important to you (e.g., job or relationship)? Are you going through a life transition (e.g., leaving home for the first time, health change, retirement, aging)? Even positive changes can leave us feeling unsettled for a while! Have you experienced trauma (e.g., car accident, sexual assault, natural disaster) or vicarious trauma as a healthcare provider who has heard about or witnessed traumatic events of your patients? If any of these fit for you, I'd love to assist you in your journey back to vitality.

Therapy is a process of investigation and change, looking deeply at what works and what doesn't work. While some answers may lie in the past, you and I will work together to understand your life, relationships, and desire for change as they are right now. Change begins the moment you recognize the need for it. I have the skills, compassion, and desire to help you explore new possibilities and practice the change you want. Examples of issues I have worked with include depression and anxiety, infertility, life transitions, relationship difficulties, parenting, and family of origin and attachment issues.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
