As a counseling psychologist by education, I have been blessed to provide individual, group, marital and family counseling for over 30 years in various settings including major medical centers, university counseling centers, and private practices. I prefer to work collaboratively with clients, ages 13 to adult, and assist in their development of life and relational skills to help moderate their anxiety, depression, grief, frustration or relationship distress. My clients are confronting various life transitions including job stress/dissatisfaction, mid-life confusion, betrayal, divorce, adjustment to change or loss of a loved one.

Sometimes, life can be extremely difficult and feel out of control. Many of us have been taught that asking for help is a sign of weakness, but I believe that we need to challenge that thought. The ability to be vulnerable, to say we are not okay and to reach out for support, is the bravest step we can take. I have personally witnessed individuals who had experienced years of trauma, addiction and mental health challenges create meaningful lives that brought them a sense of joy and peace. They found a new sense of purpose and created the healthy loving relationships. They realized the laughter they heard was once again their own.

Chances are that if you’re reading my profile then you have probably been struggling for quite some time and have finally decided to give therapy a try. Congrats, this is often the hardest step. I primarily work with “men’s issues”, aka, the way in which men deal with emotional and relational challenges. Our work often starts when some patterns or habits have now grown into intolerable burdens that may be threatening things like their ability to work, stay in a relationship, or keep emotions like anger and shame at bay. Men are experiencing a crisis of connection and what men need most is the very thing they fear: emotional honesty.

All talked out? Many of my clients have decades of experience in therapy, yet have found little relief from their anxiety or depression. I work with adults and couples who are ready to go deeper into the unconscious mind to heal old wounds, change outdated patterns and cultivate a compassionate relationship with themselves. My clients have great insight, and are ready to finally embody and feel what they cognitively know to be true: “I am safe. I am loveable. I am enough.” Deeply knowing yourself is the greatest gift you can give your heart. Learning to regulate your nervous system is a close second.
