My name is Austen and I provide Psychotherapy to individuals in Manchester City Centre and also Online. I qualified in 2011 and since then I have undertaken specialist training in the areas of Trauma, Emotional Regulation and Sexuality related problems. Trauma can take many forms; you might be struggling with the impact of childhood sexual abuse and neglect. Alternatively, isolation and shame as a teen may have lead you to lose yourself in sex or porn addiction. Many of my clients have previous experience of therapy and are now seeking a therapist with specific knowledge and experience and a therapeutic approach that is focused.

Do you feel as though you're 'stuck' in a place you'd rather not be? Do you feel as though life is becoming gradually less enjoyable? Do you find yourself asking 'is this it'? I've felt that way too - most people have. I help people realise that unwanted thoughts, feelings, and circumstances can, and do, change. We often define ourselves through our fears, insecurities, and anxieties and in doing so create a mental prison around ourselves. Common behaviours such as resistance and avoidance can make this even worse. Using traditional psychotherapy techniques, I focus on releasing people from these kinds of emotional chains.

Hello! I’m Amy and I’m a pluralistic, person-centred counsellor. I can help you work through and overcome difficulties you may be experiencing with your mental health in a safe, non-judgemental environment. All of us struggle with our mental health at some point - but that doesn’t mean our only option is to resign ourselves to suffer through it alone. Having a counsellor to support you as you work through and overcome difficulties with your mental health can be hugely beneficial. It provides a safe space to make sense of your thoughts and feelings, and develop self-awareness, self-compassion and resilience.

So often clients' unhelpful experiences of therapy are attributed to their therapist being "silent", "difficult to connect with" or (at worst) "like a brick wall". The psychologically informed, dedicated and authentic experience I deliver requires me to be active, present and, primarily, something resembling an authentic human being whom I hope you will trust and feel at ease with. You will have the time and space to talk (without awkward silences!) and where desired, I can share with you knowledge/theory acquired from 10 years clinical experience, to help us collaboratively explore, enlighten and enhance your lived experience.

Hi, my name is Ben and I'm the lead Clinical Psychologist for Project Trauma. I set up Project Trauma to provide the kind of personalised, compassionate psychological support that people need following events in their life which they have struggled to cope with. Psychological distress can affect anyone and everyone will have a different reaction to traumatic events in their life. We all have different tolerance and ways of coping, but at some stage in our life we will all need help from somewhere. Recently I have been working extensively with individuals suffering very understandable health anxiety related to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

**Webcam/ Telephone sessions available** Hey there. If you're experiencing low mood, stress, anger, anxiety or worry, then it could be helpful to consider seeking therapy. Usually even working out where to even start can be a difficult and confusing process, and CBT is a fantastic way to help you to unpick problematic thoughts, feeling, behaviours and cycles which could be maintaining the problems you're experiencing

Looking to begin in-person psychotherapy or counselling in Manchester city centre? My practice is by St Ann's Square and I provide short- and long-term therapy for adults. Established in 2011, people turn to my therapy service for a variety of reasons: they may have received a mental health diagnosis or have symptoms such as anxiety, depression, or trauma. There may be a difficult shift triggered by life's big events (employment status, for example) or a thought, feeling or behaviour in day-to-day life may have become troubling. For some it's because of a specific or generalised experience that is difficult to put into words.

How can I find a therapist in M4?
Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
