My goal is to help you feel better. Whether that means feeling less anxious or depressed, or simply feeling more like yourself. In therapy, I believe in working as a team. Research shows that the most important factor in positive change is the quality of the relationship between therapist and client. In other words, the relationship we build is key to healing. I bring an authentic and active presence to our work together. I won’t just sit and listen, but will engage with you to help access your own inner wisdom and resilience. You are the expert on you, and I deeply respect your process, experience, and goals.

At heart I am a down-to-earth optimist, I believe we are born with a desire to be the best version of ourselves. Rather than seeing transitions, depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues as merely suffering to be overcome, I see them also as opportunities to deepen in our understanding of self and in our ability to handle the world successfully. Each of us is on a heroic journey, and each life needs two things to grow and develop, ‘love” and “difficulties”. It is the difficulties that cause us to look inside ourselves, and to understand self in a deeper way, and to develop an outlook and the skills to be in the world.

My practice is focused on helping women who feel stressed, overwhelmed or anxious. Stress is often related to issues with work, relationships, medical treatments, general overwhelm, grief and trauma. Stress not only gets us stuck in "fight, flight, or shut down", it brings out our unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as turning to food for comfort or pushing our emotions down. As a Registered Nurse and Registered Clinical Counsellor, I understand our stress response and how it impacts us. I am able to take a whole-person approach to care and address the interconnections between our emotional and physical health.

Ever feel stuck in a loop of frustrating patterns? Long for meaningful connection, but get lost in estrangement or conflict? Wonder why that joyful ease you occasionally glimpse feels buried under a sludge of anxiety, numbness, or anger? No matter how many "new leaves" we turn over — we find ourselves sinking back into the familiar muck. Here we go again! It's not just in your head. Pain and anxiety get encoded and frozen in the physical body, along with all the feelings it's not okay to feel. By adulthood, our nervous systems are hardwired to survive the situation we grew up in – and can get stuck there, replaying the same script.

Many who find their way to me are carrying stories that no longer fit; old narratives about who they should be, bodies they've learned to mistrust, or lives that feel too small for the wildness stirring inside them. You're not looking to eradicate these stories, but to soften their grip and make space for what's trying to emerge. Together, we slow down and listen: to your body's whispers, to the parts that have been silenced, to the newest version of you already forming beneath the surface. Through somatic awareness and deep presence, I support you in shedding what's ready to fall away and stepping into the aliveness that's waiting.

I believe strongly that every person has the innate ability to enact the changes they wish to see in their lives, and I strive to be a support and guide during that growth. Often when we are feeling depressed, anxious, or out of sync with our loved ones we feel like there is something wrong with us; we struggle to connect our current feelings with our previous experiences. Or perhaps we make the connection on a thinking level but are unable to gain a felt sense of wellness. I will help you make sense of your history and your current experiences, allowing for a deep connection to the self and, in turn, deep connection to others.

Together we can find solutions for work related stress and other issues such as: grief and loss, addiction/recovery and enhance existing coping skills. Navigating life transitions and self esteem issues. I enjoy working with a wide range of age groups from young adult to adult. I bring decades of experience helping emergency services and health care professionals find solutions to the cumulative stress they experience every day in their jobs. Without a safe place to work through these normal reactions to abnormal events, careers can be cut short. The families of these professionals struggle as well.

Thinking of going for counselling can be a frightening thought. If you are at this stage you probably feel like your life could be better, your quality of interactions with other people could improve; you want more out of the life you have or are at your wits end in regards to some aspect of your life. Whatever the circumstance my goal is to meet you where you are at and to work together to work towards healing or a better quality of life. I also specialize in First Responders and encourage any First Responder to reach out.

I love to work with clients who want a partner in their healing. They know that the understanding and answers they are seeking are within themselves. Often my clients express a kind of anxiety - generalized to many aspects of their lives or about a specific aspect, but just as often they come to me with a more vague sense of wanting to enjoy life more or move past a feeling of dissatisfaction or apprehension that seems to "follow them" in their lives. Together, we delve into deeply exploring what that is, using body, mind and spirit as tools. My clients are motivated to experiment, explore, and reflect to find what matters most.

Are you wanting to create a better life rather than settling for status quo? Maybe just getting by while filled with anxiety and feelings of hopeless; using excess food, drugs or alcohol just to cope. I believe it takes courage and tremendous willingness to begin a path of change and personal transformation and it is an honour and a joy to walk with people on their journey toward wholeness. My work with clients often leaves me in awe of the strength of the human spirit as I witness individuals overcome trauma and self-destructive behaviours and move toward their dreams while embracing their authentic self.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
