I believe we all have innate resilience and capacity for wellness – sometimes, when we encounter trauma, loss, or stress, we lose touch with those strengths. We may struggle with worry, hopelessness, self-criticism, or feel "stuck." Our relationships may suffer. At these times, we all need and deserve support. I work with each client to build self-compassion, confidence and regulation, gain insight, and grow skills for wellbeing. To me, safe, empathic relationships are the foundation of health and growth. I strive to create a safe space for clients, and attune to the heart of an issue, so that deep, lasting change can occur.

I support people who are dealing with stressors that affect their thoughts, feelings, and actions. Difficult experiences can leave us confused and overwhelmed. If this sounds familiar, you may be trying to make sense of it, get relief, or recover. You've probably thought about or done something to make changes, but the situation seems stuck. It may lead to anger, sadness, worry, fear, anxiety, or depression. You may have a need to connect, communicate, or be understood and accepted. Your goals might include gaining self-knowledge, personal resources, or skills to cope with the issues and improve your life and relationships.

Or perhaps you or your partner experienced a trauma and now you’re trying to navigate the impacts on your relationship. Feel stuck, anxious, depressed, or lonely? Does “I'm not good enough.", "There must be something wrong with me.", "I'm such a loser/idiot/fraud." sound familiar? In a tireless cycle of earning/proving/performing/pleasing? Guess what? Your beliefs aren’t always true. Yet they can run your life & they correlate directly with how you feel & behave. It doesn’t have to be that way. You can experience emotional freedom & feel at home within yourself. In a deep & direct process (hard but not as painful as you think & so worth it) I help people heal & clear the old blocks they have about who they think they are & how they should be.

As a former international teacher in Egypt, China and Korea, I bring cultural humility and a deep appreciation for cultural diversity into my counselling practice. Additionally, my learning from Indigenous peoples has contributed to my understanding of a holistic model of health; the interconnectedness, and necessary balance, between physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of one’s self.

Life is immense. The range of experiences we encounter— the trials that we endure— are both collective and personal. While some of what touches us will inspire and empower, other things will block and hinder. Finding our way through difficult times often requires us to forge a new and unfamiliar path; to cultivate our capacity to meet the unknown with curiosity, creativity, and compassion. The way I work creates change as a felt, lived experience rather than just a cognitive one. This allows for embodied learning, which in turn, encourages a greater potential for sustainable change and stability.

My primary work is in sexual, and complex mental health concerns. I have extensive training in ISTDP, Direct Neurofeedback (DNF), and behavioral approaches such as CBT, and DBT. This makes me highly effective working with disorders such as anxiety, depression, BPD, addictions, pain and medically complex conditions. My diverse range of skills, such including harassment investigation, and conflict resolution mediation, with my 25 years in the military proves me to be a very direct clinician. I work with individuals, couples and families/supports with varied needs. Most importantly, I strive to provide a safe space for all clients.

There are times in our lives that challenge us beyond our current capacity to cope. It can be during these challenging times that we seek out a professional therapist to assist us in coping, managing, and overcoming. These challenging times may come in the form of mental health symptoms of depression or anxiety, grief and loss, major life transitions or decisions, feeling overwhelmed or burdened, feeling "stuck", relationship distress, chronic pain or illness, thoughts of harm to self, and reactions after experiencing a traumatic event.
