I specialize in a form of therapy called EMDR, which can be especially helpful for PTSD, trauma, anxiety, and depression.
When you are so focused on simply getting through each day, it can be easy to begin to lose yourself, forgetting who you are, and what you want. Therapy can be a doorway to healing from past trauma and discovering yourself anew. You can learn to find peace and balance in your life, and cultivate a deeper understanding of what care you need, and how much support you can give to others. I offer therapy for people struggling with trauma, anxiety, burnout, grief and loss, post-partum mental health concerns, ADHD, Autism, and newcomers to Canada who want to talk about this big life change.

As a highly sensitive, trauma-informed clinician who is trained in treating BPD using DBT - I hear you.
You are constantly walking on eggshells. Always on high alert, your highly sensitive brain is always scanning other people's expressions to make sure everything is okay. You over-apologize, over-explain, over-share or disconnect and push your emotions deep down. You feel different - too emotional, too “much”. A sense of loneliness and longing for something you can’t describe looms in the background of everything you do. No matter what you try the feeling that there’s “something wrong with you” just won’t let up. You try to feel better - you have journaled, meditated, tried therapy, medication, breathwork…but nothing helps for long.

I have special interest in issues concerning trauma, abuse, personality disorders, mood disorders, infidelity, cross-cultural issues and life coaching.
I believe in honoring each individual's unique life journey. Our sessions will focus on exploring your strength in a non-judgmental and collaborative space. Instead of "fixing," I would like to work with you in "actualizing" your own truth as the starting point of your healing journey. I've been working at Toronto Western Hospital as a mental health clinician for 10+ years in both English and Mandarin. I also work with MVA, EHC, GP- and self-referred clients from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds and religious beliefs in my private practice.

Whether you are working on interpersonal relationships, family conflict, romantic relationships, addictive behaviours, impulse control, or past trauma, I feel that I have a skillset to help achieve related goals.
Therapy is something that can help anyone but certainly isn't 'one size fits all'. I've always compared therapy cooking the most elaborate meal...one clear goal, but many different steps, ingredients and changes to get there. Like cooking, you may have to adjust as you go, possibly changing therapists, changing the therapeutic modality or mixing several, adjusting the goal as you go if needed. My goal is to always work with you to find that perfect 'mixture' and adjusting as we go to ensure that the desired goal is met. It takes patience, some trial and error, and a willingness. No matter what the 'issue' is, we can adjust and adapt

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
