This approach helps patients explore unresolved conflicts and past trauma that impact current functioning.
The Centre for Psychodynamic Insights is a virtual clinic specializing in psychodynamic psychotherapy. This approach explores the root causes of symptoms by uncovering and understanding underlying emotions through evidence-based treatment. Through collaborative dialogue, we examine unconscious thoughts and emotions shaped from childhood to the present. We work to relieve symptoms by understanding how these patterns affect current experiences, and create targeted strategies for meaningful change long-term.

Together, we can gently explore your trauma, grief, anxiety, depression or perfectionism, and guide you towards confidence, self-compassion and authenticity.
During our sessions, we will explore your goals, and support you in moving towards them. This could involve learning to understand yourself better by connecting your past to your present, nurturing self-compassion, regulating your nervous system, and exploring the different parts of you. You might also rewrite your story to foster your agency and strength.

My areas of focus are addiction, trauma, burnout, and major life changes.
I was born into the communities of addiction & trauma. I've knowingly participated in those communities for 20 years. I've studied, I've practiced, and I've applied a lot of what we discuss to my own life. I've been half of a great marriage, supportive friendships, raised two children, buried too many loved ones, and changed my life a number of times.

Yes, we will work on processing your trauma - and we will also move forward.
You're a woman between 39-50ish and something just feels OFF. It's definitely physical: the hot flashes, waking up in the night, can't remember anything, the weight gain, but it's also emotional: the mood swings, irritability, the burnout, the lack of motivation, the sense of just not feeling like yourself. You wonder if you're just "getting old", or maybe your hormones are out of whack? You are doing ALL the right things. You exercise, you eat clean, you have good relationships, a career, and just when you're starting to feel like you've got it figured out, the rollercoaster of emotions hits you. It's so incredibly frustrating.

Many adults carry complex trauma (CPTSD), attachment wounds, or generational patterns that show up as self-doubt, people-pleasing, emotional numbness, or relational issues.
I also support children, youth, and neurodivergent families. With years of school-based experience and training in autism and behavioral science, I understand social-emotional and behavioral challenges. I work collaboratively with parents to create a structured, non-judgmental space where children feel understood, regulated, and supported in their growth.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
