I counsel from a
trauma
-informed perspective and use a narrative approach that is solution-focused and strength-based.
It takes courage to initiate counseling and therapy. Working with the mind and our thought processes takes curiosity, patience, and understanding. However, it is so important to not only address our thought processes but to also look at the environments we were in that helped shape the way we see ourselves. Our experiences, relationships, and connections impact our overall well being. I take great pride in you sharing that process with me so that you can achieve learning, healing, growing, and a sense of self-acceptance and love. I too have done this personal work and understand the challenges it brings but also the rewards.

I provide
trauma
-informed therapy to adolescents and adults.
I do not believe people come to therapy because they are "ill" or there is anything "wrong" with them. Instead, I think we all have a natural drive towards self-understanding and personal growth. Some people seek my help because they feel flooded or stuck in painful emotions or unsatisfying relationships. Others have developed ways of coping with unbearable pain that lead to additional problems and suffering, such as impulsive, risky, or addictive behaviours. Sometimes, it is past
trauma
that needs to be explored and re-processed so these experiences do not continue to negatively affect the person's sense of self and relationships.

Taking the first step toward self-care and healing can be intimidating! I understand, empathize, and welcome you to share your story within a safe, accepting, and non-judgemental space. Each person is an expert in the story of their own lives – no one knows you better than you know yourself. My role is to help facilitate change, promote positive growth, and foster healing. Using integrative approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and the tools of mindfulness, I help adults and adolescents move past stuck feelings of fear, anxiety, depression, and
trauma
.

Creating a space for pre-teens, teens, and young adults to explore the emotions that might have felt too heavy to carry, and too overwhelming to face alone. Whether your story includes
trauma
, anxiety, feelings of being stuck, struggles with eating disorders, relationship challenges, codependency, a desire to explore your own identity, or any of the many facets of life that impact us, healing and growth are possible. In this space, my goal is to support you in healing wounds, learn supportive coping skills, better understand feelings, and unlearn the patterns that no longer serve you, and instead learn to envision your wholeness.

You find yourself asking how did you get here and where do you go now. You have had a monumental change in your life that has caused you to re-evaluate where you are. You have experienced
trauma
that has changed how you view the world. You find yourself unable to sleep or enjoy the things you used to in life because you're concerned about where you are and where you are going.
Trauma
and changes to the "normal" patters in our life can cause a person to feel lost and alone. If you are ready to start feeling like you did before this change or to forge a new path through this new normal, you are in the right place.

trauma
-informed lens integrated into my relational, collaborative, person-centred approach.
Your reasons for coming to therapy and the experiences you have had are unique to you. You might struggle with feeling alone, anxious, frustrated, overwhelmed, exhausted and unsure of what may come next. Sharing your experiences may reveal unconscious tendencies, and deepen your self-awareness, offering a sense of relief and new ways to cope. Therapy is not only for the challenging times - it can be a place to pause, reflect and refocus on the things that matter to you most. Together, we will help you find meaning, clarity and healing.

I am a dedicated social worker and therapist who specializes in the mental and emotional health of racialized communities, and has expertise working with Black African Diaspora boys and men. I have a strong commitment to helping people heal through
trauma
, including African and Indigenous-centered understandings of healing and people of colour whose mental health has been greatly harmed by the effects of colonialism and subsequent marginalization, war, violence and poverty. I help clients heal the mind, an entity that can be so easily damaged by distressing experiences, while fostering an interconnection between mind, body and soul.

We all have the capacity to manage what comes our way, but sometimes it can feel like too much to carry on our own. Have you experienced a
trauma
that continues to bother you, impacts your relationships, career, or the ability to do the things you love? Do you feel anxious, depressed, stressed or overwhelmed most days? I want to help you feel more in control of your emotions so you are better able to navigate your day-to-day. Whether that means unravelling experiences of the past to make better sense of them or focusing on the here and now, we can do it together. Your emotions don't have to rob you of living a meaningful life.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
