HELLO and WELCOME: Let's spend some time focusing on your needs. I will balance listening to your experiences, thoughts, and emotions with the introduction of exercises and techniques (often somatic or compassion-based) that will shift self-critical thoughts to self-compassion, build confidence, reduce stress and anxiety, bring ease to your mind, and soothe your autonomic nervous system. As an experienced therapist, I will empower, support, and guide you as you create positive and lasting change in your life. Clients report feeling understood and hopeful after the first session.

Through a spiritual somatic approach, integrating teachings from Gabor Maté, you will be guided on a journey to understanding how anxiety and trauma manifest in your physical and emotional self.
It is never too late to find relief from persistent anxiety and the lingering weight of unresolved trauma. Are you yearning for a deeper spiritual connection and meaning in your life and anxiety, & behaviour patterns are getting in the way? This disconnection can be accompanied by overwhelming anxiety and lingering impacts of past trauma, hindering your ability to navigate life authentically. Aligning choices with your soul's purpose becomes challenging amongst these emotional burdens, impacting relationships and growth. Combining Compassionate Inquiry with energy therapy techniques I can help you connect with your authentic self.

I use somatic experiencing (SE) to manage trauma symptoms and emotional dysregulation.
There’s a lot that holds us back from trying therapy. We may think we need a serious problem to see a therapist. But therapy is for everyone. Because, as humans, we experience sadness, grief, anxiety, and emotional dysregulation. The only qualification to go to therapy is to be human. You may ask, why not talk to a friend? Because friends aren’t properly trained to listen. And the healing begins the moment you feel properly heard. As you attend therapy, patterns emerge, insights appear, wounds open up, and traumas are acknowledged. Going to therapy is an investment in your human potential and betterment. It is a sign of sanity.

Using a somatic, trauma-informed, attachment-focused integrative approach, I collaborate with you to explore your own story and discover hope.
Perhaps, a sudden event has happened in your life, leaving you feeling disoriented and confused. Your usual ways of coping are no longer working. You know things in your mind, but your body is reacting differently. By working with the nervous system, you will learn how to emotionally regulate and integrate past experiences so that they no longer control your life. You may be someone who 'feels off,' yet can't identify what it is. You know that you have gone through things in your life but think, "others have had it much worse." However, you are finally at a place where you want to feel better and sort out what that 'thing' is.

Do you ever notice feelings of unhappiness, insecurity, or resentment in your relationships? Do you feel overwhelmed with responsibilities? And underwhelmed with life? You want to feel grateful for what you have. You want to make yourself a priority, but somehow what you want is overlooked. You are not alone. Managing self-care, the dynamics of relationships, parenting, and a professional life can easily feel out of balance. Add medical stress, a child with special needs, co-parenting challenges, and/or workplace stress. Perhaps you notice feelings of anxiety, fear, perfectionism, or repetitive patterns that you long to change.

We all go through rough spots in life where we can benefit from time to reflect. These times can also be an opportunity to understand ourselves better, and make sense of harmful patterns. Throughout life, we develop thought and behaviour patterns in our response to stress, in our relationships, and in our daily habits. With effective tools and strategies, we can make sense of them, and let them go. This opens us up to a more authentic and healthy life.

I am a holistic therapist and specialize in anxiety, mood disorders, and substance use concerns using trauma-informed treatment. I also have a strong interest in supporting individuals who have experienced psychosis and those who identify as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). I see everyone as comprised of mind, body, and spirit. We all share common pains in life and these experiences (past and present) change us. Life traumas can cause us to identify with a false version of ourselves. Coming to know your Self creates greater authenticity and freedom.

Let’s figure out what is holding you back and how to move forward in celebrating who you are. We all have parts of ourselves we wish were different, parts of ourselves we are ashamed of or perhaps sad or angry with. Sometimes we start to shape our understanding of ourselves through a narrative that is focused on these parts. My approach is one that uses curiosity to explore, understand and appreciate our unique story. Stories are ways in which we explain and understand our experiences. As your therapist, I will walk alongside you on your journey of exploring your story, rediscovering self and re-writing your story that you value.

I understand the feeling of overwhelm that some may have towards therapy, this understanding enables me to be genuine and intentional within our work. Trauma, relational pressures, stress, etc. can impede our ability to live in the present; working through challenging emotions and experiences provides us with the ability to practice discernment. I believe in the philosophy that we are innately pulled towards health, therefore I believe in your capacity to move towards a healthier and happier version of yourself.

Many of my clients would describe themselves as living in a world that was not built for them. You might be struggling with big emotions or feel things deeply. You may be looking for a therapist who appreciates that your anxiety might show up in therapy. I spend the time building a connection with each client on their own terms and I'm willing to step into your world. If you relate to any of this, we might be a good fit. Many of my clients have trialed other therapists and are looking for someone with lived experience of neurodivergence. I have a casual, conversational style and show up as my authentic self.

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
