Hello and Welcome! My name is Tiffany. I believe in a whole-person approach to therapy, focusing on individual experience through a trauma-informed lens. I will offer guidance and support as you navigate your life story, showing up with integrity, empathy, honesty, and gentleness. I trust in the bodies capacity to heal and achieve a state of balance and 'wellness', and that interconnection and community are an integral part of this healing.

Do you spend much or all of the time feeling overwhelmed and over-stimulated? If so, you are not alone. Research suggests that roughly 15-20% of the population is highly sensitive. Highly Sensitive People (HSP) tend to process information more thoroughly than others, which can be a survival advantage but also lead to feeling overwhelmed. They also tend to be empathic, easily overstimulated by noise and smell, attuned to subtle environmental cues, and require more “downtime” than other people. If this sounds like you, you have come to the right place.

Reaching out for help is a leap of trust, an answer to a deep inner longing. My healing journey has informed me in my work as a therapist. I work from a stance of "what is right with you, and what have you done to get you from there to here?" I make suggestions, and you practice. I welcome your input, especially when you think I make mistakes. You will learn about the gifts of imagination, and what it means to become aware of inner resources already present within. Knowing the difference between anxiety, stress, and worry is life changing. Awareness of an inner life as well as an outer life brings one to a place of inner peace.

I help youth and adults navigate mental health challenges, increase self-awareness, and intentionally go after and get what they want from life. I'm a warm, open, accepting counsellor. I care deeply about the wellbeing of those I serve, and I believe that if someone feels accepted and valued just as they are, it provides the perfect environment for them to recognize their strengths, build stronger connections to others, and walk away from those relationships that no longer serve them in a healthy way.

I am passionate about supporting individuals to live their lives as fully as possible. We often focus our energy on our 'to do' lists and our responsibilities to others - putting our own needs on the back burner. Counselling allows individuals to identify their challenges and strengths, and replenish their energy, enjoyment and well-being. Individual contexts and issues will be varied - in fact, that is part of what I love about this work.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
