I identify as therapist, cancer survivor, singer, sister, mother, friend. To some degree, we each identify with the roles we play, and when these roles change, we may experience feelings of fear, isolation, confusion, anxiety, etc. Major life experiences such as coming out to self or others, "empty nest", relationship ending/changes due to a partner living with dementia, grief and loss, chronic health challenges and job/retirement can feel devastating, but may also bring gifts. We can learn to see those gifts, and to dis-identify from roles or patterns that no longer serve us. Seeking therapy is a courageous thing to do.
I have a trauma informed, eclectic approach that includes reflective writing, art making, song, guided imagery, inner child dialogue, walking outdoors, etc. We are all a blend of emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual parts. By connecting with parts of your unique self, integration and freedom from self-destructive thoughts and behaviors is possible.
I focus on inclusion not exclusion. If you are struggling with your sexual identity or gender, you are safe with me. Amidst suffering it helps to be reminded of the strengths and qualities that helped you survive. However we identify in the world, we all have potential, intelligence and creativity.
