As a therapist, I recognize that challenges and issues have to be engaged within a container of safety, created by compassionate therapeutic relationships. I am a firm believer that healing happens in the presence of such a connection. I aim to bring a necessary balance that is gentle yet challenging. I integrate a biopsychosocial and holistic approach that is trauma-informed and nonjudgmental to respond to a diverse range of situations. These include, but are not limited to, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, addiction, trauma, and loss.

When life stressors become overwhelming, we typically turn to familiar ways of coping. It takes self-awareness and courage to interrupt this cycle, and I commend you for taking the initial step toward meaningful change. I work with individuals struggling with the impact of a wide range of concerns: anxiety, depression, interpersonal trauma, shame, relationship issues, emotion regulation, and loss/grief. I also have extensive experience working with people who struggle with eating disorders and body image, as well as those who are enduring the challenges of integrating their cultural identity.

All of our behaviours and impulses make sense if we bring a warm curiosity to the bigger picture of your life, your body, your mind and your lived experience. Whether you are working through addiction, compulsive behaviour and thinking, anxiety, depression, grief, ruptures or general existential confusion, I am here to hold it with you.

“How are you?” is a question many of us get asked several times a day, yet, the person asking is usually not interested in the honest answer to the question. I am. As a certified clinical trauma specialist, I am able to use a trauma-informed lens that highlights one’s strengths and resilience and allows for them to explore their experiences in a safe environment. Additionally, I use an informed approach when working with adults in areas regarding sex, sexual identity, sexual education, and general sexual therapy. I aim to create a safe space, one of compassion, empathy, and care, using a person-centered, integrative approach.

Are you someone who's looking for support with gender or sexuality? Are you a survivor of family violence? I have spent the last 10 years working with these communities in various social work, advocacy and activist settings. So often, the daily stressors we face are the result of oppression — e.g. capitalism, cisheteropatriarchy, racism, ableism and colonialism. I am committed to co-creating a space where these areas can be explored. I incorporate the principles of mindfulness during our time together, and I treat our therapeutic relationship as a collaborative, joint effort.

In an overwhelming and exhausting world, psychotherapy can be a refuge. When you’ve been feeling burned out, spread too thin, and isolated... When you’re keeping it together most of the time, but find it hard to understand how other people stay on top of everything... When you have always been regarded as independent or self-reliant, but underneath you wish others recognized what a struggle it’s been... Therapy is a place where you can be seen, supported, and even celebrated.

Grief Counsellors
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
