Women and teens experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship struggles, etc are my focus.
Welcome! Reaching out for help takes courage, and you are taking a courageous step towards healing. Perhaps you are here because each day is a struggle, like trudging through deep waters, each step feeling like it is too much. Maybe the thought of going through your day makes your heart race and your head spin. Or do you live with painful memories and intrusive thoughts from your past? It is possible to feel light and joy in your life again. Therapy can help you rediscover yourself - work towards a happier, healthier, more functional you - in a safe space free of judgment or fear.

CURRENT limited openings. Anxiety, depression, self doubt, and daily stress can be so pervasive. Does the stress of daily life feel anxiety provoking and overwhelming? Are your job, relationships or friendships feeling stressful? Perhaps feeling stuck or unsettled is becoming a daily reality. It may feel like it's getting harder to thrive and telling people “no” feels hard or unmanageable. You may feel like you are alone, isolated and that you can’t talk with the people in your life about these issues. I want to help you figure some of this out, to learn to love and thrive in life again.

Clinically speaking, I often treat areas of trauma, depression, anxiety and relational challenges.
Hi, I'm Angie. Instead of adding to your to-do list, I desire to provide a space to breathe and be present. I do not believe true and wholistic wellness can occur in a pace that does not leave room for rest or mindful reflection. My approach as a counselor is to give you room - room to breathe and cultivate mental wellness. And I wholeheartedly believe wellness can be found and lived. My desire is to simply provide the opportunity, support and the information to do so.

Hi there! I specialize in helping people navigate the dark difficult edges of life. Darkness might express itself as depression, anxiety, persistent grief, a sense of isolation, suicidal thoughts, a feeling of being stuck, or... a whole mess of things unique to you. In therapy, we work together to build a container that can hold the inevitable fear that comes with exploring dark edges, and the rejected, heavy parts of ourselves that seem to keep getting in our way. It turns out, witnessing and caring for these troubled parts of ourselves, opens up possibility for deep joy, curiosity, emotional courage and life shifting compassion.

In my practice, I use different evidence-based treatments like EMDR and ego state therapy to help heal trauma wounds, dissociation, depression and anxiety.
NOT accepting new patients. As a licensed psychologist and trauma therapist, I'm here to help you heal pain from the past to achieve a brighter tomorrow. My patients are usually seeking to work through relationship issues, abuse, disasters, and other overwhelming life events that are difficult to recover from alone. Often, when my patients first reach out, they're feeling overwhelmed by their needs and emotions; they want a psychologist who will listen, reassure them, and provide directed help for their challenges. They want connection, comfort, and guidance, and they're ready to do what is needed to enjoy their lives again.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
