I use a holistic approach to healing that includes mind, body and spirit. I have a particular focus on women's health issues, sexual abuse, and PTSD. Every pain, trauma, and obstacle we experience in life has information to share with us. The most difficult times we face can be truly transformative if we know how to listen to them. Sometimes we can get lost down these turbulent roads and my job is to help you navigate the path that you are already on.

Whether you desire to engage childhood sexual abuse, relationship issues or traumatic brain injury, it'd be an honor to journey with you.
I invite you to a better second half of your life than the first half was. My specialties? Healing childhood abuse, couples, & brain injury. So often we settle for less—I invite you to a life full of more. Our lives are stories that intersect with those around us. Who we are, our relationship patterns, careers, & how we navigate life's events are rooted in our formational experiences. In a kind and conversational style, I invite you to step into the earth of those places. By walking barefoot through the dirt of your deepest heartache and how you were (and are) shaped by it, you will find that you return to your truest self.

Individuals seek therapy to make life changes, try new behaviors, and learn to heal/grow. Often, this is precipitated by a crisis demanding such growth. I encourage clients to gather and bolster personal resources in order to address problems they are struggling with and create new ways of thinking/believing. Our work will focus on the presenting issue, previous coping attempts, related emotions, and possible alternatives. Effective therapy may include unresolved family-of-origin issues, the building of interpersonal skills, and/or the resolution of unhealthy views of self or others and unprocessed trauma.

It takes strength and courage to face your problems head on yet, if we don't we will only continue to live in doubt of ourselves and the world around us. Starting therapy is not an easy choice but, hiding behind our fears will ultimately just leave us feeling stuck. I believe we all have a warrior inside of us that can get us through anything life has to offer and I would like to be a part of the process in your discovery of this internal strength.

I work with individuals of all ages, and provide support for people experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, adoption, trauma, body image and eating disorders, life transitions, individuation, co-dependence, overall work and family stress, and multicultural issues.

I enjoy working collaboratively with my clients, helping each to develop the specific and unique tools necessary to cultivate a more satisfying and fulfilling life. My approach is to first actively listen, gaining a thorough understanding of the history of the situation and symptoms, the presenting challenges, and any other influences such as family history, cultural or racial factors, chronic illness, and economic stressors. We will then work together to identify treatment goals and ways to reach them. I work with a broad spectrum of clients ranging in age from 16 and above, offering individual, couples, and family therapy.

I am a dedicated couples therapist specializing in helping couples who find themselves trapped in repetitive dynamics and experiencing a sense of hopelessness in their relationship. With a strong commitment to facilitating change and transformation, I offer a warm and gentle approach to therapy, creating a safe space where couples can explore their challenges and work towards a healthier and more fulfilling partnership. Drawing from a psychodynamic framework, I understand that the roots of many relationship issues often lie in deep-seated patterns and unconscious dynamics.

You're here because you can't do it alone anymore. You need help to shake the stuck feeling and wonder if depression, anxiety, co-dependency [or insert struggle of choice] are winning this battle. You try to quit old habits and form healthier habits, but to no avail. You want to be in relationships that build you up but, more often than not, you feel doubt. Your self-esteem is in question. You don't feel like yourself anymore... whoever that may be. It's time to find help that will really move you out of this stuck place.

We seek therapy for a variety of reasons. We feel confused, overwhelmed, or in emotional pain, sometimes over relationship or work difficulties. We may feel lost or uncertain about ourselves and our connections to others. We may also be in the midst of a life transition or change, and desire the support and space to sort out our needs and feelings. At times we seek therapy out of a need for personal growth and exploration, and a desire to have more connection with our creative process.

Many people seek therapy when they feel disconnected from themselves, their story, their body, or their community. As a therapist, I understand that being human can be complex, challenging, and even messy. However, it can also be beautiful and delightful, especially when on a healing journey. My goal as a therapist is to help my clients connect with their innate ability to heal and grow. I believe that my clients are the experts in their own lives and experiences, and my role is to support and empower them throughout the process.

Sexual Abuse Therapists

How do therapists treat sexual abuse?

A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?

Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?

Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?

As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
