I specialize in trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, grief, life transitions (marriage, pregnancy, postpartum, aging/retirement), career/work, women and cancer , etc.
What all of my clients have in common is a desire to be self-reflective (even though this may be scary), to learn more about themselves at a deeper (unconscious) level, and to grow in ways that allow them to have the life and relationships for which their hearts yearn. Psychotherapy is a process of learning to listen to, care for and heal the pained parts of ourselves that burden our mind, body, heart and spirit. Including the body in this process is essential, as it carries our pain until we learn how to engage the brain and body to release our burdens. This is not always easy, but is certainly self-empowering and life-changing.

I have a passion for working with individuals, people who are living with cancer , experiencing relationship discord (couples and families), and healing after infidelity.
My starting point in therapy is that no topic cannot be discussed. I believe that all problems/issues can be addressed and improved and that therapy can be effectively utilized for enhancing decision-making and life transitions. I consider myself a partner in the therapeutic process. I am a listener, a coach, and an accountability partner. I see it as my role to create a safe space in which you can explore and learn to love your story.

I'm a pretty versatile therapist, and boy, do I like a challenge. I feel qualified with a range of presenting problems but I know my strengths. I have experience and interest in all kinds of anxiety disorders, gender dysphoria, trauma, polyamory/kink. I'm also keen on adolescents with emotional and behavioral challenges that may make family dynamics hard. We'll figure out the big question: what's this about?

Everyone I have worked with over the years had some area of life that they wanted to see changes in. I see my role as a guide to help identify realistic, effective, and lasting skills to start the process of change, as well as identifying personal or interpersonal barriers that are getting in the way. Reaching out for help takes a lot. I will respect your personal values, beliefs, and views regardless if I share them or not.

People come to therapy with strengths and skills that have helped them to survive up until meeting me, and I find that it is often better to work with existing tools rather than tearing down entire foundations. As a clinician, I can help you to decide what stays, what goes, what skills should be emphasized, and what skills should be learned. I have supported others to solve relationship problems, establish effective coping systems, with adjusting to difficult life experiences and spaces. We are both experts in the room and I will use my understandings of integrative practices to help build the dream that you imagine for yourself.

Currently accepting new clients. I believe that people are resilient and that we all have the capacity to change our lives for the better if we are given opportunities to succeed. Many of us will suffer moments of defeat, moments of heartache, cultural moments of significance, and situations of joy that beg to be shared. As a therapist, I facilitate the success of others by creating a space for hope, empowerment, passion, and sorrows. I desire to help others to become their best selves.

Life is no simple highway. It can be confusing, overwhelming, and even scary at times. In an effort to avoid pain, fear, and suffering, we sometimes develop coping techniques that are ultimately roadblocks to fully living life. Do you feel lost, like you’re just going through the motions without a sense of direction? Whether you’re going through a major life transition, grieving a loss, have experienced a traumatic event, or are simply tired of the day-to-day struggle, I’m here to tell you there is light up ahead and you don’t have to make this journey on your own. I am Ramona - a mother of two and former hospice social worker.

How can I find a therapist in Richmond?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
