Living with a medical condition is exhausting. You've probably learned that even getting the care you need feels like a full-time job - appointments, advocating for yourself, and explaining your story over and over. You don't need to carry the weight of it on your own. I help people with chronic pain, chronic illness and complex medical disorders navigate the stress that symptoms place on the mind and body. My approach focuses on the nervous system and how patterns of stress can amplify symptoms. Together we work to calm the system, process what you’ve been through, and help your body move out of constant high alert.

Life can feel overwhelming at times—like everything is moving too fast, your mind won’t slow down, or you’re just trying to get through the day. My passion is to see you living to your full potential through greater consciousness and self-awareness. Tackling difficult issues together can make them less daunting, while uncovering and understanding self-defeating patterns can facilitate lasting change. Using a Jungian/depth psychological approach, we will jointly identify opportunities to grow beyond these problematic areas, gain insight and explore techniques to move towards a more rewarding life. Learning to sit with suffering can liberate us from its bondage and promotes self-compassion, both essential for mental health. Imagine life being spacious enough for you.

For the last decade I have specialized in GRIEF and loss. This includes often hard to find support for those grieving the death of a child, the death of an adult sibling, and a death by suicide or substance use/overdose. I serve those facing anticipatory grief due to a terminal illness diagnosis and those adjusting to life-changing MEDICAL diagnoses (for themselves or a loved one). CHANGES and transitions including parenthood, re-partnering, empty-nesting, and aging in place are another focus of my work. Even positive changes can sometimes bring us anxiety and sadness and lead to feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, and "stuck".

Kevin enjoys working with clients from diverse backgrounds, specifically people undergoing life changes and people in the LGBTQIA community. Life is unpredictable and full of unexpected challenges/adventures. Kevin finds meeting clients where they are in their journey is the most effective way to help them determine the best path for themselves. I have a passion for working with individuals who are living with cancer and exploring end-of-life issues.
My starting point in therapy is that no topic cannot be discussed. I believe that all problems/issues can be addressed and improved and that therapy can be effectively utilized for enhancing decision-making and life transitions. I consider myself a partner in the therapeutic process. I am a listener, a coach, and an accountability partner. I see it as my role to create a safe space in which you can explore and learn to love your story.

Love is a battlefield? Maybe, but only if you are fighting for the same team. You don't have to go through this alone. I help couples move from disconnection to security, teaching them to fight for each other rather than against each other. Through Emotion-Focused Therapy, I guide partners in recognizing their conflict patterns and expressing their needs while deepening their bond. Together, we build a foundation where the question, “Are you there for me?” is met with the answer, “I’m right here.”

You’re dependable, and often the strong one in the room. You manage work, relationships, and responsibilities well; yet internally, you may feel anxious, burned out, disconnected, or tired of carrying so much on your own. You’ve likely done personal work before and understand your patterns, but insight hasn’t fully shifted how things feel in your body. You want more than coping; you want steadiness, relief, and a deeper sense of alignment within yourself and your life. You’re thoughtful and self-aware, but certain triggers still pull you off center. You want to understand why your nervous system reacts the way it does.

How does cancer affect mental health?
A cancer diagnosis is a major life event that can significantly influence the mental health of any individual. Being diagnosed with cancer often introduces a sense of uncertainty about the future, which can cause clients to experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, and significant distress. Many cancer patients may also worry about the toll that their diagnosis may have on their family, their physical health, their job, and their financial situation. The compounding of such stressors can also decrease mental health in clients and may lead to additional symptoms that can influence mental health, such as sleeping difficulties or social withdrawal.
What is the best psychological therapy for cancer patients?
The best type of psychological therapy for cancer patients is highly dependent on the needs of the individual. The therapy type that a client benefits from may also depend on what stage of the cancer journey they are in. Recently diagnosed cancer patients, for instance, may benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which can help clients develop skills to manage the emotional distress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Alternatively, cancer patients further along in their journey may benefit from therapies like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or other forms of mindfulness therapy to help manage symptoms or physical pain associated with treatment. Clients may also consider group therapy, which offers cancer patients an opportunity to receive support from other individuals dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
Are there any risks or drawbacks in going to therapy while dealing with cancer?
Although attending therapy while dealing with a cancer diagnosis can be helpful, one major concern for cancer patients can be the financial cost of seeking therapy. Many therapists are out-of-network, meaning they do not accept insurance, and thus clients are expected to pay the entirety of the session fee. Since many cancer patients may be out of work as a result of their diagnosis or cancer treatment regimen, the costs of therapy sessions can be substantial. Luckily, many cancer centers and local clinics may offer free or substantially reduced-cost counseling services to cancer patients and their families. In addition, cancer patients may be eligible for grants or other forms of funding from local agencies and nonprofits to seek therapy for their cancer diagnosis. Such opportunities can be very helpful for cancer patients, as they allow clients to obtain the benefits of therapy without the financial strain.
How long does cancer therapy typically last?
The length of cancer therapy depends on the needs of each client. In some cases, cancer patients may only require therapeutic support during the period following their initial diagnosis—to help manage the uncertainty and shock of a cancer diagnosis. In other cases, clients may choose to receive therapy throughout their treatment, and even following, their cancer journey. Pursuing therapy for a longer period of time can help clients develop a deeper relationship with their therapist and provide opportunity to process the challenges presented by cancer treatment, such as physical pain, and challenges associated with cancer survivorship, such as ongoing identity concerns, physical limitations, or relationship challenges.
