I believe positive change can occur even with the smallest shift in perspective of the problem being faced. I enjoy listening, being inquisitive and supportive as people tell their story of what has led up to this point. Listening for areas of strength and wondering how we can build on those. I find that people are more resilient than they often realize.
The primary theoretical approach I prefer to work from as a base of therapy is Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. It is a theory that can smoothly integrate and transition into other theoretical approaches such as Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Theory, and Narrative Theory.
