I believe the most important relationship you have in your life is with yourself. We spend so much time and energy on other people, but it is just as important to put that same energy back into your own wellbeing. Often people find themselves at a point where they feel stuck or frustrated about their relationships, careers, families and even themselves. During those times, it can be immensely helpful to allow someone else to help us reflect and move forward. Today’s world can be very stressful, and I am honored to help people navigate the struggles of balancing all of life’s challenges.

Hi, I'm Cheryl. I have 20+ years of experience as a Clinical Social Worker/therapist. I see therapy as a process of introspection with compassion. Within therapy, one learns to listen and respond with compassion for oneself and others. In therapy, one can develop the ability to expand awareness and be more flexible in making life choices. My specialties include depression, anxiety, loss and grief, relationship issues, gay and lesbian issues, and trauma. I use a blend of cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic models and work with individuals, couples and groups.

Currently, I have openings for individuals and couples. We can be discerning, intuitive, & emotionally intelligent in our selection of partners. However, we won't know how real our love is until we go through the fire of conflict and stay centered in the face of feedback. The clients that show up in my office need support with conflict, abuse, trauma, mood disorders, ADHD, commitment, relationship and sexual intimacy. Clients want to feel worthy of love and establish trust and commitment in their relationships. Clients want to be heard, seen, loved for who they are and be open to reciprocity in love.

What I feel I have to offer people is a helpful relationship based on acceptance and safety. My hope is always that together within this supportive relationship you can feel free to explore your thoughts, feelings, strengths, challenges and choices. I've found that understanding and accepting where we are gives us a strong foundation to sustain positive change. In over 30 years of professional experience, I've never worked with a person whose conditions/situations did not make sense, once these experiences have been understood.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in effective change and have witnessed this firsthand - which is why I feel that the therapeutic relationship is a privilege.
Do you ever feel like you are putting on a happy face to get through the day, only to come home, emotionally drained, and just tired of faking it? Are you ready to take the next step but have spent so long feeling like a burden that speaking about your problems seems almost impossible? Starting therapy can be frightening and, for a lot of us, talking about our feelings doesn’t come easy. That's ok. (Seriously!) I want you to know that it's normal to feel nervous at first and that it is worth it to get your life back. Together, we will work towards helping you live a better life - however that may be defined for you.

I use a psychodynamic approach combined with a behavioral approach in order to address relationship issues as well as individual personal problems for clients to reach a level of confidence and individuality that will enhance their growth and self esteem.
I work primarily with individual adults and couples who are experiencing difficulties ranging from major mental illness to situational problems that are interferring with their daily living. My work with clients is designed to determine the most effective approach to assist them in reaching their goals in developing a healthy and satisfying life. I am experienced in working with individuals with mood disorders, anxiety disorders and substance abuse. In couple's therapy I address communication patterns that cause roadblocks to the couple's ability to build a healthy and close relationship.

Relationship Issues Therapists
While need for human connection appears to be innate, the ability to form healthy, loving relationships is learned. Some evidence suggests that the ability to form a stable relationship starts to form in infancy, in a child's earliest experiences with a caregiver who reliably meets the infant's needs for food, care, warmth, protection, stimulation, and social contact. Such relationships are not destiny, but they are theorized to establish deeply ingrained patterns of relating to others. The end of a relationship, however, is often a source of great psychological anguish.
