If you or your child are suffering from an OCD or an anxiety disorder, you are not alone. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness and yet most sufferers do not have access to effective treatment. The good news is that if you or your loved one is troubled with unwanted thoughts or worries, physical symptoms due to anxiety, perfectionism, phobias, health fears, or any other anxiety, there is help. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and more specifically exposure therapy has repeatedly shown to be the most effective approach for defeating anxiety and OCD.

I work with skin-picking/hair-pulling, and specialize in treatment of OCD.
Life often hands us challenges we don't feel capable of managing. Our thoughts, feelings, and expectations can be so overwhelming that they become obstacles to making decisions and living our lives to the fullest. Therapy is a safe environment to understand our thoughts and feelings, face pain and fear, and align our lives to our values. The freedom that comes from understanding and facing our challenges is well worth the effort. In treatment, I help cultivate an environment of trust and compassion to face and overcome life's challenges through an integration of CBT, ACT, ERP, relational, and dynamic therapies.

I have been trained in exposure and response prevention (ERP) for treating OCD, which is considered the first-line treatment for OCD.
I value a collaborative approach to therapy, where we work together to set goals that work for you. Maybe you’re seeking support for a diagnosis such as anxiety, depression, or OCD. You might struggle with a history of invalidation, or other interpersonal concerns. Maybe you struggle with executive dysfunction, and are having trouble turning your motivation into action, or maybe you need help building that motivation. Maybe you aren’t quite sure yet what you want to work on in therapy. No matter what brings you in, your story is unique, and I am dedicated to tailoring your therapy experience to your unique situation.

My specialties include OCD, anxiety disorders, and depression.
Hello, and welcome. I have been practicing clinical psychology for almost 35 years, and am currently working primarily with clients struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I treat adults and teenagers, and I especially enjoy working with college students. While I have extensive experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) I find that my clients are responding best to Inference Based CBT (ICBT), a relatively new modality in which I have received extensive training. My style is warm, inviting, and collaborative.

My role will never be to tell you what to do; rather we will work together to find the perfect solution for you. I accept clients from all backgrounds, identities, and cultures. I have a warm welcome for those of the LGBTQ+ community along with open relationship structures/polyamory. Areas of most experience include anxiety, depression, OCD, addiction (harm reduction model, preferably). No area or challenge is too small or seemingly too insignificant in which to engage in therapy. Clients will be successful when they come with an open mind, a willingness to be vulnerable, while also being provided their own pace and comfort.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
