I am passionate about my work as a therapist and coach and deeply committed to supporting people to live from the fullness of who they are. My work is informed by my gestalt training and feminine power leadership coaching training with over 30 years experience in other somatic and experiential disciplines. I am interested in working with people who are committed to a process of awakening to their fullest potential and aligning with their authentic essential nature. My approach seeks to shift us from a place of isolation to one of connection and collaboration through embodied relational engagement.

In addition to traditional psychotherapy education, I have trained in holistic trauma treatments, including EMDR, and am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) and Senior Training Assistant with Somatic Experiencing Institute.
I offer an integrative approach to growth and healing using traditional talk therapy and body-centered modalities. My work honors the wholeness of each person and their innate power to heal themselves. I strive to create a safe and courageous environment where the qualities of curiosity, acceptance, and compassion are present. I appreciate that race, gender, sexual orientation, class, and other identities impact our life experience. I am attentive to social traumas, and support clients in healing such wounds to live more freely. I know first-hand, as a client myself, how transformative a collaborative therapeutic relationship can be

I am trained in Somatic Experiencing (the work of Dr.
Negative or traumatic experiences from the past get encoded in our bodies. When these neurons get triggered, our positive present mindset gets blasted by echoes of past fear. Old, stuck anxiety shape-shifts into not-great coping habits. Old, stuck depression whispers that it's dumb to future plan, unsafe to dream. Since this embodied stress speaks "sensation" , the language of the body, verbal therapy alone can't help our bodies know that the past is really, truly in the past. So we project our fear into the future. Pass it down to our kids. Spread it out into the world. I work with people who would like to be done with all that.

My practice combines a psychodynamic approach coupled with trauma modalities, such as EMDR and Somatic Experiencing (SE).
I believe that mental health is the ability to respond to setbacks and disappointments - that is, life events - with flexibility and resilience. Unfortunately, childhood misattunements with caregivers, traumas, and neglect shape responses that become fixed patterns throughout life. With therapeutic support, positive attachment relationships can be forged, and old memories can lead to new insights, which can inspire more adaptive reactions.

My theoretical framework is informed by relational psychoanalysis, attachment theory, parts work, and Somatic Experiencing, blending both how we articulate & organize our stories of self, and how these stories live in our bodies.
I believe therapy offers a unique space to explore habituated patterns, behaviors, and ways of being. I utilize a psychodynamic, relational framework, emphasizing the therapeutic dyad, and working towards cultivating a curiosity and warmth towards the therapeutic process as a whole. I work with adults who come to therapy for a wide-range of reasons, such as anxiety, depression, developmental trauma, divorce, loss, and other big life transitions. I am particularly passionate about working with folks navigating family planning, pregnancy, and the postpartum period.

Trained in a somatic approach to psychotherapy, I work with trauma and the impact painful life experiences have on one’s ability to connect with others, engage more fully in their chosen pursuits and find greater levels of inner peace. I have come to understand that we can’t be fully in the present or move towards the future if we are caught in the traumatic energy of the past. While suffering is part of the human condition, we hold within the very structures of our brains and the core of our regulatory systems the means to survive devastating life experiences as well as the capacity for growth and change.

I use a unique, dynamic approach to traditional talk therapy informed by Gestalt theory and guided by somatic awareness, honest inquiry and deep compassion.
I believe in our capacity to challenge and navigate away from unhealthy patterns. I support my clients in cultivating awareness and guide them in the healing process by drawing on innate strengths and resilience. I encourage clients to think of human beings as organisms, of body and of mind, that live in relationship with others and with our environment. As such, growth is our natural state. We are meant to grow, to act fluidly and adapt creatively throughout our lives and we suffer when that process is blocked or interrupted. However, our suffering can provide an opportunity to grow in new and exciting ways.

I hold a spectrum and context based understanding of mental health that creates a psychotherapeutic container within which acceptance and change both thrive. The relational field between therapist and client is held with an integrity that values the impact of corrective and reparative experiences as one ventures to unpack the roots of their psychological patterns, while rerooting into a spiritual ground that both includes and moves beyond previous limitation and perceptions. Practical relational, mindfulness, dialectical, somatic and movement skills enhance embodiment and facilitate bringing the inner work out into the world.

I integrate several modalities when working together, including EMDR & Somatic Experiencing for those looking to address trauma, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), play therapy, and sandtray.
I specialize in treating maternal mental health, young children, and women in various life transitions. I believe that providing a safe and flourishing atmosphere for individuals and families to explore and process through their hopes, fears, and past has the potential to provide immense healing. Early parenthood and life transitions often awaken a myriad of emotions from past experiences and future unknowns. This awakening can shape the way in which we and our children experience and react to the world. It takes a village, and therapy can be an important part of our village.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
