Over-compromising habits promote the feelings of resentment, anger, depression and helplessness.
Our thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, relationships and experiences shape us emotionally, physically and energetically. By gently and compassionately exploring these, both healthy and undermining, new choices become possible. I offer principles from Behavioral Cognitive Therapy including guided meditation, diaphragmatic breathing, cognitive restructuring, progressive relaxation, and mindfulness. When reinforced with practice, these techniques help to increase wellness and reduce suffering and anxiety. You don't need to know the problem or the solution to begin. You only need to want something to change.

Do you wake up with your heart pounding, stomach in knots, feeling overwhelmed, anxious, depressed? Does it feel like you are struggling to cope and not enjoying life the way you wish you could? Sometimes it's so easy to get trapped in the endless whirlwind of negative thoughts and emotions. It can feel so isolating and discouraging. It seems like nothing you try works out, and it impacts every area of your life.

2,500 years ago Socrates said, "The unexamined life is not worth living." He believed a good life requires an understanding of why we think, act, and feel as we do. Since relationship is part of psychotherapy, the personalities and philosophies of life of the client and therapist must be compatible. I am well-suited for clients who are curious about human behavior - their own as well as that of others. Before there were psychologists, the issues of life were addressed by philosophers. Thoroughly examining life includes considering ancient wisdom and spiritual reality as well as psychology (the science of mind and behavior).

My primary therapeutic focus is to help teenagers and adults to develop a stronger sense of self and to develop the coping skills they will need to address issues of anxiety, self esteem and self worth. I use a non-judgmental, trauma informed and holistic approach to help clients develop their ability to self soothe, including using body/movement and grounding techniques. I focus on both personal autonomy and understanding ourselves in relationships, with the goal of moving out of stuck feelings and thoughts to embody a more curious stance of your experiences and the world around you.

Whether you're really hurting or simply seeking personal growth, I'm happy to help. How I practice is mainly cognitive-behavioral, but I also draw from nonviolent communication, feminist therapy, and anti-racist multicultural counseling. I work with people who have a fairly broad range of concerns (see list to the right). I work with adults and older teens; individuals, couples, and groups. I especially enjoy helping clients with a stigmatized identity overcome both internalized and external oppression. I welcome transgender and other queer folk; Muslims, immigrants, and racial and ethnic "minority" members; and activists for social and environmental justice.

If you're on this website reading therapists' profiles, you or someone you care about are probably wrestling with unpleasant feelings or difficult life circumstances. I can help you figure out what is working in your life, what is not working, what can change, and how to make change. I listen carefully and ask thoughtful questions to explore where you've been, where you are now, and where you need to go next, working through the tough stuff along the way in a spirit of respect and caring.

Any individual, couple, or family making the decision to embark on therapy has made a brave step toward growth and change. Once rapport and safety is established, giving the self permission to be raw and vulnerable is what I strive for with clients. Feeling safe to explore discomfort and navigating different means of communication is at the heart of my work. The approach of curious exploration and demystification helps the individuals, couples and families that I work with resolve stressors related to anxiety, depression, grief, relational issues, work and academic influences, family dynamics, and LGBTQ issues.

Does your use of SOCIAL MEDIA feel like an ADDICTION? Do your moods vacillate wildly depending on your Twitter mentions or how many times somebody has swiped right on your profile? We fear the judgment of others, but we crave their approval and praise. These feelings can be overwhelming and make you feel like you are out of control. What if I told you that you didn’t need to suffer like this?

Update: On Maternity Leave From July 2023- January 2024 Our minds and bodies are powerful forces, which are wholly connected. Environmental factors, as well as belief and value systems are deeply rooted in how we present ourselves physically and emotionally. For many, painful life events can fracture the mind/body connection for the sake of survival. Adults may experience anxious and depressive thoughts. Relationships may see increased tension and/or codependent traits. Healing from therapeutic intervention is recognizing unhelpful “parts” and bringing love, appreciation and competency to your internal world.

Hello Folks. My name is Sav (they/them) and I am a gender non-conforming, queer, trans-masc, and white therapist. My personal identities greatly influence the lens of which I engage in a therapeutic relationship with the people that I serve. My therapeutic interests include working with individuals in the LGBTQIA2S+ community, anger processing, trauma work, intergenerational dynamics, and interpersonal relationship dynamics. I strongly believe in taking an anti-racist, decolonizing, culturally competent, and gender-affirming approach to therapy.

"You cannot change or heal what you do not acknowledge." (Unknown) I believe in utilizing therapy as an opportunity to assist individuals, couples, and families in acknowledging and overcoming barriers to healing and change. I create an authentic, collaborative and non-judgmental therapeutic space where clients are able to address areas in life that aren't working (anxiety, anger, depression, low self-esteem, relationships, painful experiences); to explore and resolve the internal and relational barriers that limits healing and personal growth; and to create an action plan that empowers clients to live out their full potential.

Also cognitive techniques addressing low self confidence, anxiety, stress, fear or anger.
Challenges and occasional catastrophes are inevitable, and serve to strengthen our confidence in the long run. If our fear and negativity are running the show, however, we get stuck. Let's pick apart the patterns that do not serve and re-author a peaceful, vibrant future. Using a combination of psychotherapy and coaching allows us to uncover destructive patterns, heal, and then move forward in a positive, purposeful direction. What are the painful ideas, feelings and memories that fuel your reactions?

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
