“What are we here for, if not for each other” ~ Siddiq. As a global crisis changes life as we know it, we are in uncharted territory. Discomfort, vulnerability, fear and anger are normal responses to an abnormal situation. You may be feeling alienated, anxious, isolated, frustrated, depressed, and stressed. Individually and as a society we are grieving the loss of what was “normal” as we adjust to the oft-mentioned “new normal”, and we do not yet know what the future holds. You may be grieving the loss of face-to-face social connection, a sense of safety, financial security, or—even worse—the loss of loved ones. You are not alone.

My primary focus of therapeutic services is to provide a conducive, safe, and confidential format that will ensure personal growth. Enabling the individual to regain functional capabilities which is the ultimate goal. In order to regain functionality and growth individuals in therapeutic settings may have to discuss pleasant/unpleasant aspects of their lives and may experience uncomfortable feelings such as anxiety, fear, shame, guilt, hatred, anger , and frustration. However, through counseling, clients learn how to appreciate themselves, make better decisions and become more open about themselves and the world they live in.

"You cannot change or heal what you do not acknowledge." (Unknown) I believe in utilizing therapy as an opportunity to assist individuals, couples, and families in acknowledging and overcoming barriers to healing and change. I create an authentic, collaborative and non-judgmental therapeutic space where clients are able to address areas in life that aren't working (anxiety, anger , depression, low self-esteem, relationships, painful experiences); to explore and resolve the internal and relational barriers that limits healing and personal growth; and to create an action plan that empowers clients to live out their full potential.

I believe one of the bravest things you can do is begin to understand your own story. It is often hard for us to accept help due to society’s belief that we should “handle it” on our own. These unhelpful thinking patterns impact how we interact in our relationships, as well as how we process things as they are happening. I strive to work with clients through the hard times while making the process as enjoyable as possible. We can get caught in bad relationships, trauma cycles, grudges, and anger .

Anxiety about the future, career, relationships, illness, and life can leave you feeling stuck and drained. It can show up as perfectionism, constant worry, and bad sleep. Trying to control it does not work and can leave you feeling defeated. Deciding to get help, in a supportive environment, is a major step in feeling better because you will find out why this is happening and develop ways to overcome this so that you can start living life in victory.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
