I particularly enjoy working with clients who are seeking some level of self-understanding. Clients going through major life transitions and developmental stages throughout the lifespan I find benefit the most from my approach.

I welcome anyone looking for deep personal growth and healing. If you are tired of just surviving, looking for relief from stress and emotional pain, and yearn for a path to your real potential, I use science-based techniques addressing the whole mind/body. I have a 3-pronged approach; #1 Trauma techniques integrate traumatic memory #2 Self-monitoring skills aid in mindful awareness of feelings and body reactions, #3 Self-regulating tools empower you to be the best you can be, to deal with the stressors of your life. As your control increases, confidence builds, and true healing begins.

If you are on this page you know that life has its challenges There is suffering. Each of us in our own way is working to rise above our pain. For each of us these challenges are different. Some of us struggle with anxiety, others depression, some struggle to find love, others to end it. There are challenging relationships, children, work. Perhaps more difficult there is: death, loss, trauma, perhaps psychiatric or chronic medical illness. There is no shame in struggle. This is being human. It is also human to overcome this suffering, and create a life that reflects your deepest hopes, embodies courage, feels peaceful.

I have provided therapy to children and families for the past 15 + years, so I understand how important it is to find a therapist that is the right fit. I work hard to meet all clients where they are in the process, and believe in keeping things simple and logical. I use different therapy approaches, including cognitive behavioral, trauma focused cognitive behavioral and solution focused. I have extensive experience working with children and adolescents, many of whom have been resistant to services but have made great progress. Evening and weekend appointments available.

I aim to create an environment where people I work with feel heard, nurtured, and confident so they can share openly without fear of judgment. The majority of the clients I work with are aiming to gain insight into their own behaviors and feelings while concurrently healing emotional wounds and traumas. From our families of origin through to our present day situations, we have collected unhelpful thought patterns that can impact our emotional state - our work in therapy is to exonerate ourselves from some of the burdens of our programming and learn to embrace who we really are.

Are your childhood memories confusing because you know you were cared for but never felt important? Perhaps you had emotionally immature parents or distant parents who met your basic needs but neglected your emotional needs. Do you often feel lonely, disconnected, and searching for love you didn't receive? Do you wonder why you often feel "not good enough," unlovable or unworthy? Perhaps you have found loving relationships but you still feel unfulfilled, untrusting or alone in life. You may even recall the early life events that triggered your mistrust of loving relationships, but you can't resolve these feelings.

I became a therapist years ago with the thought that I may be able to have some small part in other people's journey in a way that was helpful, supportive, and encouraging. I try my absolute best to do that every day and for every client. I believe that therapy is a facilitative process with no one being the expert on how to live your life better than you. My role is to help you find the best version of yourself and work with you so you may become that self. Additionally, I work from an integrative approach (when desired by the client) to use nutrition, physical health, and holistic approaches to help heal from the inside out.

The role of a therapist is to understand each client's unique perspectives and needs without imposing personal biases or assumptions. My only request of potential clients is an openness to exploring their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in a non-judgmental environment. Presenting issues can range from anxiety, depression, or trauma to relationship difficulties or struggles with self-esteem. Regardless of the specific concerns or challenges you are facing, therapy is a valuable tool in gaining insight, developing coping strategies, and working towards personal growth and fulfillment.

Every individual has the strength to grow and move forward in their life in a positive and healthy manner. Life's challenges can at times make us feel alone and misunderstood. Seeking out therapy can create a safe and supportive environment to express your feelings freely in order to cope and find resolve with specific issues.

My practice is dedicated to help children, teens and adults acknowledge and heal from wounds - not the "Band Aid" ones, but the kind that leave an imprint on your heart and psyche. Trauma and grief can be overwhelming, and can emanate from many different sources (death, violence, abandonment, relationship issues). I also work with children and teens to develop the coping skills necessary to grow and mature, especially as they deal with grief, anxiety, violence, and school related stress. The 'trickle down effect' of these issues is devastating - affecting how children learn, their social relationships, and self image.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
