My approach integrates a trauma informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, attachment and early family challenges, and EMDR as it suits your specific needs.
Life tends to hand us some unexpected challenges that can catch us off guard, or even knock us off our feet. Grief and loss, trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions and relational hurts rob us of our peace, leave us feeling anxious, unable to make progress, and can challenge our core identity. I have extensive experience helping people through a wide range of challenges and struggles throughout my twenty years in pastoral care ministries. Processing the journey in a safe, supportive, trauma informed, environment sets the foundation for those experiences to make you stronger instead of chipping away at your heart.

I use a variety of therapeutic techniques in my practice such as Family Systems Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Narrative Therapy, Strengths and Solutions Focused and Psychodynamic.
Hello! Thank you for viewing my profile. I believe it takes strength and courage to decide to begin therapy. I believe there comes a time in most people's lives when it can be helpful to have a non-biased, supportive person to guide them through life changes or difficulties they may be experiencing. Therapy is a collaborative relationship between the client and the therapist. In order for therapy to be successful, a person has to be ready and want to make changes. It is also essential to feel understood and accepted by your therapist. If you feel that you might benefit from a caring, experienced therapist, please call.

When words/ narrative and images combine, greater meaning, insight, and self-awareness can be achieved.
You want an interactive and engaging therapy experience to help you dive deeper into learning about who you are, and how you reached this place in your life. You may self-identify as neurodiverse and/or part of the LGBTQIA+ community, and want a therapist who can relate to your lived experiences. You are likely coming to therapy to address your worries/fears, perfectionism/need for control, depression, disordered eating/exercise patterns, low self-esteem/self-image concerns, and/or complex trauma/attachment wounds. You are hoping to find a therapist who is a knowledgable guide in helping you express yourself in new ways.

I utilize EFT, somatic, and narrative techniques matched with an attachment lens to lead clients into the safety of connecting their feelings and their physical bodies.
I am passionate to work with those who have a strong desire to seek freedom from the negative impacts in the cycle of abuse and trauma. Many of my clients describe themselves as those who live with complex trauma, meaning they have experienced a number of compounding traumas throughout their lives. My goal is to create safety for my clients as they process their story while being met with compassion and strength to move forward into healing. Due to my previous career in crisis response I also find honor in supporting those who have experienced secondary trauma by way of first responder, service provider, or helper.

I use various modalities including Narrative Therapy, IFS, Somatic, and Emotion Focused Therapy to customize the healing process for each client.
You do not have to face your challenges alone. Life is hard but you can do hard things. I specialize in working with individuals who are navigating and trying to understand their challenges and relationship to trauma, neurodivergence, anxiety, self esteem issues, or, not uncommonly, a combination of the listed. I also work within other ranges such as inner child work, spirituality, LGBTQIA+, life transitions, attachment styles, childhood trauma, and mindfulness.

Because each client’s goals and path are unique, I employ an eclectic, client-centered approach to therapy founded in Feminist and Narrative therapies, Family Systems Theory, and Attachment Theory.
I am, first and foremost, interested in working with people as people, not as their diagnoses. As a fellow human and collaborative therapist I'm interested in meeting my clients where they're at with whatever they are facing. As an ADHD-er myself I particularly enjoy supporting other neurodiverse folks traversing this neurotypical world. I am also passionate about supporting other therapists through the challenges they face as caregivers and humans.

I believe the therapeutic relationship serves the client to identify new goals and take steps to achieve higher understanding of the self. We will look back at family history and life events for patterns the client may be stuck in. We address the narrative the client uses to "story" their life, observing how language is used in both healthy and unhealthy ways. This allows the client to address those narratives and work to create more productive ones. Couples: Specifically focuses on pre-martial/pre-engagement counseling with couples. Please email me directly if you are interested in this.

Together, we'll explore the depths of your mind, body, and spirit using a holistic approach that integrates narrative therapy, EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and existential therapy.
Have you tried talk therapy with some success but feel you are ready for something else? Have you tried to make changes, only to find yourself slipping back into old patterns that you know are not best for you? Have you ever thought, "I know better than this, so why am I still doing it?" Maybe you've even resorted to self-criticism, subconsciously hoping it would push you to improve. But these methods aren’t sustainable—they often end up causing even more harm in the long run. If this sounds like you, and you're ready for something different than talk therapy, you're in the right place.

I operate from a strengths-based, narrative therapy, and emotionally-focused framework.
The thought of therapy can be confusing and maybe even a little intimidating. That’s why the root of therapy lies in the relationship between the client and therapist! No framework can replace the importance of a safe and collaborative relationship between a client and therapist. Together, we’ll foster an environment where you can rediscover your resilience, process your lived experiences, and work towards your goals. My true passion is working with couples and families as they navigate life’s challenges together. I specialize in supporting interracial and multicultural couples with communication and multicultural issues.

As a clinician who is part of the Kelle DeBruin Counseling team, I have a passion for working with people who think complexly about the world around them and want to "dive deeper" on their journey. Those who contemplate life’s big questions: who am I? What do I want? What is my purpose here? Why did I have to go through that and what does it mean? Together we will explore yourself and your values, and any barriers that prevent you from creating the life you want to live, either yourself or in your relationships.

Life can be challenging. At times it can be filled with obstacles that seem insurmountable. Anxiety, depression, stress, relationships, work, low self-esteem and trauma can make one’s life even more difficult to navigate. Learning skills to help you through these challenges can be key to helping you overcome them. I work individually with middle school aged children through adults, including those within the military community. I also work with couples, partners, families and groups. I specialize in trauma, anxiety, depression, self-esteem and relationship challenges.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
