We all get stuck in behavior patterns that aren’t necessarily what we want for ourselves. Really, if we could choose, none of us would struggle with worries, fears, doubts, sadness, or loneliness. We wouldn’t need to try to push away these difficult emotions by engaging in avoidant or even destructive behavior patterns. It’s natural to try and protect ourselves from emotional pain, but the cost is high. Our lives get smaller, more inflexible, less meaningful, and less vital. My goal in working with individuals is to help people open up, live in the present moment, and make choices that are driven by values, rather than fear.

Do you feel as though pain, anxiety, or depression is in the driver’s seat of your life? You want to take part in activities, but that feels close to impossible, or maybe your desire to do anything has faded altogether. Even what seems like small tasks feel overwhelming and if you complete them, afterwards you then have to rest for days. You might be irritated easily and often, and maybe people you care about are experiencing the consequences. You have likely attended countless medical appointments and attempted various treatments. I would like to try to help you increase your quality of life.

Hi, I'm Luke, and I'm a Therapist and Clinical Social Worker with over a decade of experience as a mental health practitioner. My hope is that you're able to find a good fit for your therapist, as it has been my experience that the qualities found in the therapeutic relationship, including authenticity, validation, understanding, and mutual empathy are some of the essential foundations to the work of healing. I enjoy helping others find both acceptance with themselves and their life experiences, along with working to accomplish the kinds of changes they would like to make in their lives.

People call a psychologist's office when there is a problem, a crisis, something is not working. It isn't the first place you go; it's often a choice of last resort. It's difficult to make the phone call, send the email, commit to a time, and then actually show up. If you are willing to wade through those difficult first steps, it is our job from that point to create an environment of acceptance.

Through connections we learn about ourselves, others and our world. Sometimes, safe connections and acceptance have been missing in our lives due to neurodivergence, social rejection, abuse or neglect. We may walk through life feeling like outsiders struggling to understand the world and ourselves. In therapy, I work to provide a safe, nurturing place where you can take off your mask and find self compassion, acceptance and healing. I offer trauma informed therapy with collaborative, nonjudgmental support to explore your strengths and manage life's challenges. I use humor, empathy and multiple evidence-based therapy models.

I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and pull from CBT, relational, ACT, person-centered, feminist and humanistic approaches.
I currently have openings for Mondays and Fridays! I believe each person is doing the best they can with what they have, and have a passion for working with those who wish to learn how to best use their strengths effectively to reach their goals. I enjoy working with adults seeking to learn more about themselves, including the patterns that may have stopped working for them. Few things feel more honorable than sitting with those who are open to challenge themselves, while honoring their needs, wants and goals. I love working with those with the desire to continue growing through every chapter of life.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
