If you are looking to make a change but are not sure how, therapy can help. Therapy can feel intimidating but it shouldn't be. The process of learning about yourself and evaluating how you think can prove to be a healing one. It also helps you to find ways to cope with the past and to heal from pain related to one's experiences. It's human to get stuck sometimes and it helps to talk things through, to help make sense of it all, and to move toward living a more satisfying life.

Currently looking for new clients. I work primarily with young women. My clients are intelligent, insightful, and empathetic, but often feel overwhelmed, anxious, and like they are putting more into their relationships than they are getting out of them. I work with individuals who want to better understand themselves, their pain, and the ways they relate to other people. My approach is collaborative, authentic, and guided by a genuine curiosity about who you are, where you come from, and where you’re at right now. I work from an explicitly anti-racist, anti-oppressive framework, and am Health at Every Size informed.

I work with clients experientially to feel deeply into their own emotions that may be locked away. I seek out glimmers of core emotion in the present moment -- that is where the magic or possibility for change lives. I help clients learn to relate to people in a healthier, more wholesome way -- this may be learning to reach out, or it may mean having a sense of what you need and want so you can get those needs met in your relationships. I work by listening closely and pushing clients know what's going on internally. I tell them what I am feeling and ask clients to be in touch with their bodies and feeling not just their thinking.

Your relationship is stuck and it's wearing you out. You feel like you are going around in circles and the pain and hurt is piling up. It seems insurmountable. You try to communicate but you don’t feel seen or heard. The exhaustion is growing, constantly trying to fix things and getting nowhere. “I didn’t think it you would be this way” you tell yourself. When you met, there was a spark. You felt so attracted to this person with their unique personality but now those differences are grating and cause you pain. It’s like you’re speaking different languages, and you just wish your partner could see things your way.

My work has been primarily focused on issues related to complex trauma, substance use, anxiety, neurodivergence, and identity concerns. I enjoy working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community and identify myself as queer. I recognize that our overall health can be impacted by our lived experiences with the broken systems around us, and at times, symptoms can be a direct result from living within these systems. My focus as a therapist is to help folks gain insight around the impacts that past experiences may have had, resolve past trauma, recognize one's own strengths, and learn how to navigate through the challenges of life.

We never stop growing and evolving as people, but sometimes we all need help knowing the best way to move forward. I believe that one of the most important aspects of our evolution is to learn how to be in relationship with ourselves and those around us. Consequently, my therapeutic perspective is deeply based in thinking about the systems and context that my clients are in currently, as well as those that they have come from, and that shape their experiences. I am committed to supporting individuals, couples, and families in this process, and in learning more about themselves.

MY CLINICAL FOCUS is helping parents and their young adult children. Today's parents struggle with how much to support and how much to let go of young adult children. Parents are closer to and more invested in the success of our kids than past generations. It's harder for both parents and young adults to let go. Young adults struggle with depression, anxiety and trying to succeed in school and life in general. COVID-19 and the depressed economy stress families and lead to greater rates of depression and anxiety and complicate the normal launch process. I work with both parents and young adults depending upon who is seeking help.

Client needs, preferences, and strengths form the basis of my work. The emphasis is on collaboration. I draw from several therapeutic traditions, including family systems, CBT, solution-focused, family systems, insight-based therapies, as well as EMDR and other strategies for working through trauma. By identifying strengths and hopes, my clients and I work together to define goals and a plan to reach them. We work on effective communication, building connections and problem-solving as a means to lead the life clients desire.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
