Each of us has our own learned ways of coping or dealing with stressors, however sometimes the stress can become so overwhelming that we are no longer effective with our methods. This is a time when we should reach out for extra support to get things back on track. I would be honored to help you “regroup”, “refocus on priorities” and “set attainable goals”. My therapeutic approach is primarily both strength-based and interpersonal. I will meet you where you are on this path to wellness and help guide you in the direction you want to be. Start your journey today.

I am a Solution Focused, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist, which concentrates on problem solving rather than the situation itself. I create an environment that fosters the feeling that you have an advocate who helps you navigate through situations, which may be difficult. I love being a therapist and that comes through by demonstrating a genuine concern with the issues you bring forth. I am committed to engaging in meaningful dialogue with you in order to recognize and help foster an understanding of your struggles, needs, and personal goals. I will also strive to enable you to find strategies to cope with and resolve any issues.

It's easy to get swept away by the daily struggle and getting back on track can be difficult. Something doesn’t feel right. Maybe you feel like you’re going through the motions or maybe you feel more on edge lately. You could have had these feelings for ages or for days. Even simply thinking about change can feel overwhelming. You want to feel better, but you don’t know where or how to start. You need help, and I’m here to help you.

We are living in a very trying time that can make us feel isolated, fearful and uncertain of the future. We may be experiencing emotions we have never felt before and don't quite know why or how to cope. Seeking therapy is not an all or nothing process, sometimes it is just needing someone to touch base with to help work through feelings or thoughts in a safe and non-judgmental space. Through exploration we can uncover barriers & work toward a healthier quality of life. Through discussion and reflection we become empowered to reconnect with our inner voice to help us feel more in control and less overwhelmed.

When we experience trauma, anxiety or any kind of struggle in life, it can leave us feeling lost. While meeting you where you're at, I help you to gain insight on what you're experiencing. I teach clients to notice where we feel emotions in our bodies and the relationship between thoughts, emotions and behaviors. In order to begin healing, we need safety and someone who holds space for us to process our experiences. It is my goal to create an environment of trust and safety where clients feel any and all emotions are welcomed in session. I bring a calm, empathetic, and compassionate approach to the therapeutic relationship.

My goal is to help clients achieve improved functioning as quickly as possible. I believe the most powerful transformation comes from a combination of techniques to understand and reset non-adaptive patterns, including neurofeedback, other forms of biofeedback, such as heart rate variability, emotional freedom technique (EFT), and a personality assessment I use called the Enneagram, combined with behaviorally-based counseling, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The combination of these techniques provide the foundation for holistically examining issues that stand in the way of a fuller life.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
