Welcome to my page. My name is Valerie and I am a Mental Health counselor. I have worked in the field for over 20 years. I graduated and received my Masters Degree in Counseling from Cambridge College. I have provided mental health services in a clinical capacity to children and families of all walks of life. I have worked in a variety of mental health settings such as DYS, DCF, Residential programs. I also provided support/services out patient and in-home. Some of the areas of concern I've worked with include but are not limited to sexually harmful behaviors, Victims and batters of Domestic Violence, peer pressure, and ADHD.

I love a good conversation. So much can be learned from the give and take of sharing in a safe space. My clients mostly find themselves in a situation unimagined or unplanned for and want guidance. I have worked with all ages and in many settings. No matter the specifics, all are looking for change - resolution of grief and loss, relationship decisions, exploring unhealthy choices, having feelings that immobilize them and/or concerns about their future. Hi and welcome! The clients that I help may be starting to undo their inner people-pleasers. They have been taught that they are not enough, or are too much. That their needs somehow don’t matter as much. They get in their own way, don’t live in accordance to their values, and ruminate on every perceived mistake. They worry about being a burden or an inconvenience to others. They have a wounded inner child. Many of my clients are survivors of narcissistic abuse, struggle with addictions or self-harm, and struggle with just being nice to themselves. Sound familiar? Listening closely to each person's reason for seeking counseling I work to help people identify thinking patterns that are not serving them well. Most people know what would help them, but struggle to shift their thinking patterns to allow for change. My job is to help each person identify where their thinking is not supporting their goals.

Some days are better than others, but there’s an ongoing theme in your life of feeling discouraged and overwhelmed. You find yourself frequently worrying about how you will stay on top of all your responsibilities, and sometimes worrying about things that you know are out of your hands. When you stop and reflect, you know you used to have real closeness with your partner or other important people in your life, but it’s getting harder to remember that actual feeling. You’re drained by how much you seem to give of yourself but don’t feel hopeful about anything changing soon.
