My therapeutic style utilizes a strength based, cognitive behavioral approach.
I believe in therapy YOU are the Expert of YOU and I am here to provide you the tools, skills and resources to help achieve your goals. The Dictionary defines the word CRISIS as; “a time when a difficult or important decision must be made.” That is where therapy comes in. We all go though some type of crisis in our life and having support to work through and handle that crisis makes the process that much easier. My job as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor is to provide a safe space to help you explore yourself, develop new perspectives, and guide you through the crisis you may face in your life.

My approach is strongly based in Cognitive-Behavioral therapy.
Initiating therapy can be a challenging process. Whether this is your first time looking for a counselor, or you've had one before, picking who you want to work with can be daunting. The initial sessions are meant to build trust and rapport, setting the foundation for a comfortable environment to open up and share your experience.

My main approach is cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) while also building a warm, therapeutic relationship.
I'm passionate about working with people who are finding life to be overwhelming and exhausting. Maybe you're heartbroken over loss, burdened with guilt, feeling you'll never be good enough, are scared, or at wits' end. Or maybe something happened to you, and it sticks with you giving you no rest. When we feel this way, we tend to isolate, berate ourselves, and spiral in our thinking or distract ourselves from these debilitating feelings. You're not alone. These feelings and responses are common, and there are evidence-based treatments to help you take the helm and steer your own ship in life.

Each person is on their own life path. I try to meet each person's needs as they work toward finding a greater sense of peace and happiness. At times we may question ourselves and our place in this world. Having someone work through those issues with you can be helpful. In a safe and warm environment we can address issues related to anxiety, depression, communication, spiritual/religious issues, anger, ADHD, and others.

Techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and other modalities are utilized to promote skill development and awareness of personal mental processes.
Life is a barrage of experiences that informs our relationship with the world around us. Perspective on current circumstances is heavily influenced by previous context, which can distort one's outlook on the future as well as how the past interpreted. If this process goes unexamined, it can hinder the ability to be self-aware, open emotional growth, connected to others as well as the general ability to be accepting of current difficulties in life. Through our work together, we can develop effective methods examine our thoughts, behaviors and emotional reactions to events, in order to live fulfilling lives.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) Therapists

How does cognitive behavioral therapy work?

Cognitive behavioral therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophizing or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioral therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioral therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioral therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioral therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
