I know what it means to find everyday to be an uphill struggle, as my own journey had me move from my home in South Korea and endeavor to adapt to a new life in Kansas City. I have experienced the friction of adjusting to a new environment and the feeling of not belonging. I have also discovered for myself how to thrive in such an environment, and would like to help you learn how to thrive in your own environment.

You may find yourself in the middle of a life change, grief, questioning your identity, divorce or experiencing unwanted mental health symptoms, among other things. Maybe your relationship is at a crossroad, has experienced an affair or you're tired of dealing with the same relational problems over and over with the same results. I love working with clients with a variety of concerns, goals, and backgrounds. I am here to support anyone and everyone who is going through a difficult time in life or a has a goal they would like to reach. I have 10 years of experience practicing therapy with clients ranging from 5 years old to adulthood. I have extensive experience working with adults, adolescents, and families that have endured significant traumas or are struggling with mental health from a multitude of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

I am a licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist and have been practicing for nearly 28 years. I have worked in a number of different settings, including private practice, in Kansas and Connecticut. I have experience working with adolescents, veterans, service members, adults, and couples. Throughout my career I have worked with individuals around issues of anxiety, depression, bereavement, marital conflict, blended family issues, as well as sexual and domestic violence, interracial relationships, and LGBTQ+. I am a Jamaican living in Kansas, practicing the art of human connection and compassion. Hello! I'm Vanessa, co-owner of Secure Counseling Clinics. I've lived in KC for 20 years with my husband, 4 children, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 1 bearded dragon, and a flock of backyard chickens! I'm a Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in both MO and KS, Nationally Certified Counselor, Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and KS board-approved clinical supervisor.
