My ideal client is one who wants to building a collaborative relationship that will help to foster change. I believe that most of the work of therapy happens in between sessions, so my clients will benefit if they are willing to practice the things that we agree will be helpful. I am less focused on diagnoses than beliefs, feelings, and behaviors that are amenable to change. I am hoping that my clients have decided that they are willing to be vulnerable at this point in their lives and that they are open to having me participate in their journey toward a more effective life strategy.

Welcome and congratulations on taking a step towards change! Life is a journey that involves moving through stages of self-awareness, knowledge, clarity, and wisdom. I believe everyone has the strength to travel this journey, but sometimes we need some assistance along the way. When we begin therapy, we enter onto the path that allows us to explore and reconnect with all parts of ourselves to achieve wholeness.

My starting point in therapy is that no topic cannot be discussed. I believe that all problems/issues can be addressed and improved and that therapy can be effectively utilized for enhancing decision-making and life transitions. I consider myself a partner in the therapeutic process. I am a listener, a coach, and an accountability partner. I see it as my role to create a safe space in which you can explore and learn to love your story.

“Most human suffering is related to love and loss and the job of therapists is to help people acknowledge, experience, and bear the reality of life- with all its pleasures and heartbreak.” -Bessel Van Der Kolk, M.D. As a LCSW , I strive to create an open, honest, and compassionate space for each individual I meet. I believe in meeting clients where they are at while they explore their life experiences and make connections to find a deeper understanding of themselves. I have worked with many clients who experience anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem issues, and other mental health disorders.

I feel a strong path to help middle aged to elderly women. As an older woman, there are possible challenges: relationship difficulties, breakups and divorce, children, work outside and inside the home. We struggle with health issues: including pain and hormonal adjustments. There are births, deaths, and anniversary dates that one may be reckoning with. Trauma may try to crush your life. It can be overwhelming, especially if you feel alone. I would be happy to give you an opportunity to share your life’s challenges and find hope: reaching a higher point in self care, self esteem, and see the beauty in and around you!

I began my journey as a counselor, 10 years ago beginning by volunteering with LGBTQIA-affirming crisis hotlines in the Southeast and creating LGBTQIA+ safe spaces on college campuses. I have worked in multiple areas of mental health including intensive outpatient, outpatient, residential and crisis work and with multiple mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, substance use disorder, eating disorders, probation parole, family, and couple’s therapy. While my work has focused primarily on the LGBTQIA community and BIPOC community, I find joy and purpose working with many cultures, faith backgrounds and communities. I

I believe therapy is an investment in your own life; a courageous risk to find healing, peace, hope and joy. Because we cannot change the past or predict the future, nor can we remove uncertainty, change or pain from the human experience, my goal is to help you discover ways to respond to whatever life places in front of you. I do so in a non-judgmental, collaborative way that focuses on building skills and self-compassion.

Jewish Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same background to be able to work together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of cultural forces, such as discrimination, that may contribute to that client’s concerns. With a professional who has such training, a client should feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues without feeling that they need to self-censor.

How can I recognize an effective Jewish therapist?

As with members of any religious or ethnic group, just because two people happen to be Jewish does not guarantee that they will share the same values, knowledge, or experiences. A Jewish client seeking a therapist who shares their cultural identity, or for whom it’s important that a therapist share their religious beliefs, may want to discuss a professional’s Jewish background with them before beginning therapy. For someone who seeks justification for major life changes in their religious tradition, or in biblical writings, finding a therapist who is comfortable framing guidance in that context may be especially valuable.

Would a Jewish therapist have unique training?

No, but they should have the same training and certification as any other mental health professional, as well as experience with a range of evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or mindfulness-based therapy. A therapist with this type of experience should be able to help any client feel comfortable and safe, which is essential for a therapeutic alliance. Once this is established, a potential client may want to find out more about the therapist’s Jewish background.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with Jewish clients?

A client can directly ask a therapist if they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and if so, whether these individuals sought counseling for faith-related issues or marital or familial issues in which their Jewish background was a factor. A client may also wish to ask a potential therapist whether they incorporate Jewish teachings and values into their own professional work.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Jewish therapists?

The directory of Jewish therapists includes professionals who have opted to share their cultural background on their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their background, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and/or communities.
