I am a queer, Jewish, white, cis-gender woman who was raised in the PNW.
During our work together, we will be doing just that - working together! In our sessions I'll help you to identify what you (and your partner, if couples therapy) would like to see improved and how you visualize yourself, your relationship, and really your life by the end of therapy. From there I help you to recognize patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that may be keeping you stuck. My approach to helping you in this process is through a ‘person-centered’ therapeutic lens, as I trust that you are the expert in your life and that I am here to help you to understand your potential for positive change and to help facilitate that change.

If you are struggling with a relationship, familial issues, a difficult life transition, or just struggling to get through the day-to-day then it is a good time to ask for help.I believe that it is never too late to start counseling and that counseling is a unique experience for everyone. Some people might go to counseling weekly for years, some might go to sessions weekly for 6 months and then transition to biweekly, some might be going to counseling for the first time, and some might be looking for a new counselor. All these experiences are valid, and my goal is to help you figure out what works for you and what you want to achieve.

You are not too much. Nor is what you have been through too much. If you struggle with gender or sexual identity, sexual or domestic violence, or other forms of lasting trauma, I can help. Just know that I believe you to be, at this moment, exactly who you need to be in order to survive. I also believe that things can get better.

I enjoy working with a broad range of humans with varying strengths and challenges. Areas of focus include trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, spiritual/identity exploration, and psychedelic integration. I particularly connect with open-minded humans with a creative, artistic, or athletic side, who are on a journey of self-discovery and growth. If you want to co-create a version of therapy that makes sense for you, I'm ready to go down that path together.

For me, “psychotherapy has to do with…people playing together.” My therapeutic approach is grounded in practicality, metaphor, and paradox. Whether you want to examine your relationship to archetypes and epic tales, investigate the mundane and extraordinary beauty in doing the dishes, or delve into your style of relating to another being: bring all of it - it is welcome and deserving of your attention. Fundamentally, I am fascinated by people - our stories, our journeys and our capacities for grace and awe.

I want to feel better. I want to be closer to my partner. I don't know what I want to do in my life. I keep saying I'm going to start... (fill in the blank) and I get on my phone, I eat, drink or shop too much. I need more balance. I need to be heard and stop being numb. I want to enjoy life and relationships more.

We get thrown for loops all the time, some are small and we bounce back, others are bigger and we may need help to navigate them. Many of the folks I see are at the top of one of these bigger loops; maybe you just received a new chronic illness diagnosis or are in chronic pain that is taking you away from what's important to you, maybe you're sexuality has shifted and you're struggling to make sense of it, maybe you're ready to unpack a trauma that's taking from your life, maybe you want to make a change with substance use that's not working anymore. The challenges we face can seem insurmountable and you don't have to go it alone!

I am passionate about the therapeutic relationship. This work entails identifying issues and concerns and processing them in a constructive way. I am interested in holding hope for you on this journey, even when you are feeling hopeless. I think it is important to understand the connection between the mind and the body as well as the past and the present as challenges are confronted. I find the use of creativity, both in art making and perspective changing, very healing. It is an honor to guide you in the process of creating the life you desire.

Jewish Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same background to be able to work together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of cultural forces, such as discrimination, that may contribute to that client’s concerns. With a professional who has such training, a client should feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues without feeling that they need to self-censor.

How can I recognize an effective Jewish therapist?

As with members of any religious or ethnic group, just because two people happen to be Jewish does not guarantee that they will share the same values, knowledge, or experiences. A Jewish client seeking a therapist who shares their cultural identity, or for whom it’s important that a therapist share their religious beliefs, may want to discuss a professional’s Jewish background with them before beginning therapy. For someone who seeks justification for major life changes in their religious tradition, or in biblical writings, finding a therapist who is comfortable framing guidance in that context may be especially valuable.

Would a Jewish therapist have unique training?

No, but they should have the same training and certification as any other mental health professional, as well as experience with a range of evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or mindfulness-based therapy. A therapist with this type of experience should be able to help any client feel comfortable and safe, which is essential for a therapeutic alliance. Once this is established, a potential client may want to find out more about the therapist’s Jewish background.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with Jewish clients?

A client can directly ask a therapist if they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and if so, whether these individuals sought counseling for faith-related issues or marital or familial issues in which their Jewish background was a factor. A client may also wish to ask a potential therapist whether they incorporate Jewish teachings and values into their own professional work.

Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Jewish therapists?

The directory of Jewish therapists includes professionals who have opted to share their cultural background on their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their background, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Jewish clients and/or communities.
