I have been doing individual and couple therapy for over thirty years. I use a variety of therapeutic approaches, always choosing the one that best suits the client's immediate needs. These modalities range from psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral to narrative and existential. There is even some dream, and hypnotherapy added when helpful. In addition to my clinical practice, I have extensive forensic psychology experience, including resolving workplace disputes, custody issues, and trial consulting. My goal is to help clients find meaningful solutions to challenging life problems.

Let go, let in, and embrace - I believe these three steps can be the hardest, yet, with compassion, they can be the most life-giving and beautiful approaches to human life. It has always been my greatest pleasure to assist clients in the process of letting go, letting in, and embracing life more intimately. Clients I work with include individuals seeking to transform impacts of trauma or loss, relieve burden associated with hoarding or clutterring, learn more about self-love and love for and with others.

I focus on working with OCD, Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Agoraphobia, Panic Disorder, hair pulling, skin picking, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Hoarding, and compulsive decluttering.
Feeling scared and ashamed of distressing thoughts, being stuck in repetitive behaviors that feel impossible to stop, avoiding things because of intense anxiety, tension between loved because of overwhelming fear - these are all things that clients with OCD and Anxiety related disorders report. People who struggle with these issues express feeling incredibly stuck and afraid of their worst fears coming true while also trying to manage relationships and pressure from life obligations. I work with individuals, couples, and families who struggle to managing the impact of OCD and Anxiety related issues.

When our children's hearts have been broken, our hearts break, too. Parents often struggle with knowing how to care for a hurting child. The child's behaviors can be challenging. A parent's own unhealed wounds get triggered. Then, there's the parenting guilt! It can be overwhelming. We understand and we are here to help.

My name is Uchechi Alozie. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. My approach to therapy is seeing my client within their environment and not just the issues they are presenting. My approach is trying to aid my clients holistically. I have worked with family units for more than 10 years. And have worked with individuals with chronic mental illness for 6 years. My goal is to help clients by determining what is influencing and impacting the client in their environment rather than looking just at the presenting issues.

Hoarding Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for hoarding?

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) has been well-studied in the treatment of hoarding. This type of therapy includes changing beliefs surrounding possessions, as well as learning how to discard items and reduce acquisitions. The hoarder may also gain much-needed organizational skills. Another useful therapy may be compassion-focused therapy, which can address emotion regulation and negative self-perception.

How long does therapy for hoarding take?

Although treatment can vary, most people demonstrate improvement after 23 sessions, with some showing improvement after just a few sessions. Researchers have developed a 26-session cognitive behavioral program. People who hoard may need “maintenance” sessions over the years if the problem arises repeatedly.

Are there medications for hoarding?

The more commonly-prescribed medications for hoarding are including antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). This can include drugs such as venlafaxine and paroxetine. And because hoarding disorder is related to obsessive-compulsive disorder, medications for OCD, such as clomipramine, may be effective for hoarding as well.

Can hoarding come back after treatment?

Hoarding is a chronic disorder and it can last throughout an individual’s lifetime. Regularly checking in with a psychotherapist can help manage symptoms long-term. A good therapist will help the person learn needed skills including decision-making, organization, and stress reduction. The patient will gain a better perspective and the need to cling to useless items will lessen.
